Lesson learned about water weight

Of course I know, I have read, read, read, not to get emotional over the scale when I know I have been eating right and exercising. Yes, I am a daily weigher. I do use Libra now to record the weight and watch the trend line instead of getting TOO hung up on the fluctuations. BUT....typically the fluctions are a pound or less and last two days tops when they creep up.

So, introduce running to my exercise routine. An activity I have NEVER done my entire life. I was so proud of myself, especially considering I spent two years recently barely able to walk a block due to a bad ankle injury that took several surgeries to fix.

That pride was dashed when I stepped on the scale one day to see a full two and a half pound gain! I tracked it but was not happy at all. Let it ruin my mood. My day.

Then after a day of pouting I re-read some things about water retention when changing or intensifying a work out routine. I had been adding intervals of running for about two weeks, 3 times a week. I was decidedly sore anyway so decided it was time for a rest day (man was that hard to enforce!). But the rewards...two days later those two and half were gone plus another half a pound :):)

I know I will succumb to the scale monster again in the future but hope I can quickly remember this little lesson and shake my funk more quickly.

And I hope this post helps someone else who may experience the same thing.

Being a slow loser (about a pound a week is all I mange to squeek out), that gain was nearly devastating and it turns out my upset was for nothing :)
