Losing the last ones

I'm 148 lbs and trying to lose about 15 lbs (I'm tall). I used to be 7 lbs lighter, and in shape, so I consider this my goal weight.
Thing is, in order to not get too hungry I have to keep the calorie deficit per day quite low since I don't have that much to lose. That also means it's very easy to erase one week's deficit by one bad day. I stick to my calorie restriction most days, but then there are days like a birthday party, someone celebrating with a cake at the office etc. I try to restrict the amount but I can't always say no to everything (I'm new at work at looking to fit in too...).
I know some people stick to the 5:2 diet. For a moderate version, I was thinking of maybe doing 6:1 - fasting or eating little only on Sundays to ensure a calorie deficit for the week. It might be more manageable.
Anyone tried this? Is this a better way of shedding those 'vanity pounds' that are so hard to shake?

I did 5:2 to lose weight and do 6:1 to maintain weight (6 days at a slight surplus).
5:2 if done properly should only give you approximately a 3,000 cal deficit for the week, 6:1 only 1,500.
It's pretty hard to cancel out a week's deficit with one celebration so maybe you haven't got the "normal days" calorie allowance quite right? Maybe nibble 100 cals off your 5 day allowance?
By the way I lost my last ten pounds in a series of small (3 or 4lb) steps and it wasn't any harder to lose the last few "vanity" pounds. Just the same numbers game.
