Is it about counting calories or eating better?

Weight loss is about a calorie deficit. Eating "better" without a calorie deficit will not result in weight loss.0

What you may find with eating "better" is that you feel better. But for weight loss in general, it's all about burning more calories than you eat CI<CO).
If your calorie goal is 1200 and you eat nothing but cake and stay at or a little below that number, you'll lose weight. You might not feel all that great, but you'll lose!
Changing your eating habits is a choice you can make if you want. Just be mindful of how you're feeling - some people can completely cut out certain foods and do fine; others will binge like there's no tomorrow if they do that.
Best of luck!

I've tried both. Most of my success has been from calorie counting. I have tried "clean" eating, Low carb, and other ways of eating that guide away from counting, but I never had good results besides a few pounds of water.
Lost 10 pounds counting calories alone this month0 -
I'd say it is a combination of the two, since calorie counting gets the weight off...but eating better keeps it off for me. Developing my healthier eating habits has helped me to crave "bad" food less and allows me to eat a lot of good stuff while still staying within my calorie budget. Eating better (within reason) is something I know I'll be able to sustain for the rest of my life because I have made it something I enjoy.0
