Varicose Veins

Hello everyone, my first post. I was 240 lifetime max, work on my feet 12 hours a day on concrete the last 20 years. 193 now. I have large varicose veins in mostly my right leg that have been there over 10 years. Saw them appear when I was working strenuously cutting trees and carrying wood in addition to my paying job in 2002.

Has anyone had these veins and see them shrink or go away due to weight loss and healthier lifestyle? They say of leg veins once there they stay, but they also say the same kind of veins in the esophagus due to portal hypertension are reported to go away when the cause is eliminated - usually liver transplant. Just wondering if anyone has had the same leg veins and seen some relief or remission.

Thanks.

No, they don't go away on their own.

Are they that bad? Aren't they just like some squiggly purple lines?

Tattoo a jelly fish above them and let the veins be the tentacles.

It's a blood flow issue and for many genetic. Lack of physical activity can increase getting them as well as sitting long periods of time and getting overweight.

I don't have them, but I have family members who do. They don't seem to go away with weight loss.

Have you consulted a dermatologist? They can be removed and there are several different techniques for doing so.

Tattoo a jellyfish - LOL :-) - they are as big as my little finger ( I have large fingers ) and like a twisted mess of rope under my skin from my ankles to my knees. Nearing the point of interfering with daily activity just for the discomfort.

Thanks folks, though I always prefer "natural" remedies I was afraid they are permanent but for surgury though can be managed with compression socks. Time to start looking up docs in the area...

Jason---I had awful varicose veins, sort of like the map of the world. When I was pregnant with my third, a vein behind my knee got huge. Several years after I had it surgerically removed (not a fun experience). My husband met a vein specialist through his office, and started bugging me to go see him. This is a doctor. He did an ultrasound first to see if there were deep vein problems. My problems were superficial, so he decided to inject them. This was one of the best things I ever did. Those awful veins disappeared. I did 3 sessions a month apart the first year, and repeated the next year. I do wish I hadn't wasted time, and had gone earlier. The transformation is incredible. My legs are less tired and don't hurt anymore. I would recommend seeing a specialist to anyone with this problem. I honestly didn't think it was possible. Best of luck to you. B)

I was just in the pharmacy and they had a pack of 'carusos vein away' sitting there. I doubt it would get rid rid of existing veins but might stop new ones from forming???

I never had them, but a friend did. She had no insurance at the time, so surgery wasn't an option. She was advised (not sure by who!) to take grape seed extract. In her case, it didn't make them go away completely, but it did relieve her pain and swelling. There is something in grape seed extract that makes the vein walls stronger and eliminates the swelling (I may have the technical explanation wrong...please google this yourself for a better explanation.)

Apparently this is widely prescribed in Europe, and this effect has been known about for decades...this isn't a new thing. Supposedly there are studies that have been done to document the effectiveness. You can buy it anyplace they sell vitamins and other supplements.

If you research it and decide to give it a try, perhaps it can at least make your symptoms better until you decide what to do.

The strain on them will improve with weight loss. Ask your doc if you can wrap them with an ace wrap.
