Exercise weight loss q

Hi,
I'm currently losing about 2 pounds a week and doing well. Doing some light walking but nothing intense.
I'm going to be joining my local gym and hiring a trainer. I want to tone up as I lose weight.
I was wondering if a regular exercise program will increase weight loss and/or has it for you? I understand building muscle and it weighing more than fat etc. (I plan to not eat all my exercise calories, maybe half depending on increase for protein etc)

Weight loss is achieved through calorie deficit, period. That being said, exercise can help you burn more calories in order to keep or increase your deficit. It also helps you maintain muscle mass so that your weight loss consists of burnt fat instead of muscle.0
