Stepping off the scale

Yup, I'm one of those people. The one who obsesses about the number on the scale and forgets those little "non scale victories" we all have. I'm going to make a commitment to myself to not weigh myself again until Friday. I know for many of you that doesn't seem like a lot of time but for those who also struggle with scale addiction like I do you know it won't be easy. Any advice from those of you who have overcome your addiction to the scale? Or those who only weigh once a week or so? How to keep on track during the week if you aren't weighing daily?

As someone who struggled with severe anorexia for almost 10 years, I can definitely relate to a scale addiction! One thing that I eventually had to do that really helped was get the help of someone I really trusted. I had a weigh in day, and until that day I gave my scale to my accountability person so I literally did not have the option to weigh myself. Then, on that day, I would go there, weigh myself first thing in the morning, and then leave and be done with it until the next week at that time. Obviously you don't have to do that forever, but it can really help break the habit! Also, make goals not related to the number on the scale and set up little rewards for yourself. And write them down! It sounds silly, but make yourself a little check off goal sheet. Say your goal is to meet your calorie goals for the day without going over for one week, and if you do you reward yourself by going to see a movie with a friend or buying yourself a new nail polish color you want. Write that down and make a box for each day. Then, for each day you reach the goal mark it off! It sounds juvenile, but having concrete goals not related to weight can really help break that habit, and it feels good at the end of the day to check it off and know you did it! It also involves some trust. Trusting your body that if you follow your goals and make good choices for yourself it will know what to do, even if you aren't weighing yourself every day. The hardest part is the first couple weeks. If you can get through that without weighing yourself every day, you will start to see that your body is still doing the right things and you are still making progress when you do your weekly weigh ins. If you'd like support, feel free to add me as a friend. I'd be happy to support you and listen if you need to talk! Good luck! I Promise it is so freeing to not feel like a slave to the scale, and you will get there! Just trust!0
