which is better for long term weight loss and lean musscle? Low carb or low fat?

    Why either extreme? Why not moderate amounts of all macro nutrients in a balance of nutritious foods you enjoy with an occasional treat food every now and then so that you have a sustainable way of eating?

    That's a pretty winning formula for most of the successful people on this site.

    In comparison studies low carb tends to win if it isn't a draw. Low fat seldom wins.

    Since you said "long term", I would say don't do anything you don't plan on doing for the rest of your life.

    Best for long term weight loss, maintenance and overall health? I'd bet that's: a nutrient dense diet of foods you like, some treats that you can fit in your day (and that don't derail you otherwise), and some exercise: weights and cardio.

    doesn't necessarily rule out high fat, I eat in the top 20% or higher of vegetables.
