How does one keep the motivation to continue on with a fitness regimen, whether it be walking, biking, jogging ANYTHING!

For me, I had a "why" that kept me going and that why was extremely deep-seated. The more internal your motivation (something other than losing weight for the sake of losing weight - because if THAT were enough motivation none of us would need this forum, now would we?), the more emotionally attached you are to that reason - the better likelihood you have of sticking with it regardless of the kind of day you're having or how you're feeling. So, for me, it was the realization that if I didn't do something about my health ASAP I'd end up just like a lot of my older aunts who were ALL suffering from various weight related illnesses at young ages that were/are totally preventable. Either that or I was going to end up dead of a heart attack by the time I hit 40. That realization scared the begeezus out of me and kept me going through the rough patches!
Feel free to friend me and maybe we can figure your "why" out together!0 -

I so agree with PinkCoconut. The "why" we are doing this will help us get through the tough times and stay focused. I'm well in my 40's and not liking it. LOL The "why" I'm doing this is because I am tired of feeling miserable in my clothes and skin. Also, I am scared to death of the weight gain people say you will have as the older you get. Last year I trained the best I could for a half marathon. I felt great! I promised myself I would stick with it, but I didn't. So, I'm determined to get in a good state again...why? because I want to be happy and enjoy myself again! My body tells me at times I older, but my mind says "no get up and fight! ".0

For me there were many logical reasons. My mother was always overweight. Deep down I was a little embarrassed at school pick up time. I don't want to be an embarrassment to my daughter. My mum had many health issues including heart failure and diabetes. She died relatively young and was incapacitated by her health for over a decade before her death.
In 2008 I had a blood clot on my lung which, had I simply been more unlucky, would of been fatal. If a blood clot on my lung wasn't enough to make me stop smoking, what would be enough to make me loose weight?
The simple answer is vanity. I saw a photo of myself and I was floored. I looked so awful, I was embarrassed for myself, for my daughter and for my husband. How did I let this happen? how could I ignore it for so long? A friend of mine wanted to join slimming world (she'd asked me before and I'd always said no). I had just turned 40, my daughter had turned 9 (not a baby any more) so I decided that I would take a year FOR ME!! I joined slimming world, I started running (couch to 5k) then joined the gym.
I have never been happier. I am so glad I took this time for myself, I wish I had done it 20 years ago.0
