Antibiotics and Bloat

Has anyone ever noticed a connection between taking antibiotics and being bloated?

I previously didn't bloat very often, even when drinking carbonated drinks. If I WAS bloated, I could pinpoint what caused it.

As of Monday, I've been taking penicillin twice a day for strep throat, and ever since my stomach feels like a giant balloon is inside, my appetite has decreased, and I'm burping a ton. After two full days of this, I want it to go away!

How do you fight bloat?

As you've probably read in internet searches, antibiotics can disrupt the "good bacteria" in your gut, which can cause digestive issues. Try a good probiotic, like Align or Culturelle. You can get them at most pharmacies. I prefer to take 2 or 3 brands, since they tend to contain different kinds of microbes.

Wait it out, because usually you take them for about 10 days?

Antibiotics and steroids will usually cause people to gain weight/bloat. After you are done with the dosage you should go back to normal though :)
