Heart rate monitors are designed for steady state cardio. Do not wear it all day. Just wear it when working out. Take calorie burn as an estimate. Especially when the activity is not steady state cardio.

If you want something to monitor your activity level (something you would wear all day) - that's a FitBit (Fuel/MisFit/VivoFit/JawBone). A FitBit is like a fancy pedometer. It estimates all day calories.
