Am i missing something

Hi, just signed up and completed my first day recording calories in and calories burnt from exercise. However i read somewhere that we burn calories even when doing nothing. I have a desk job so I'm spending 8 hrs behind a computer screen and i guess must be burning energy even when doing nothing. How do you account for this to get the overall picture?
Thanks.

Go here: http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html and enter your stats and what amount it gives you multiply it by 0.8 and eat that amount. You can manually set it in your goals. If you arent loosing drop the calories a little till you start to lose. Then every 10 lbs drop it a little more.

You don't. It's automatically figured into your deficit.

when you entered in your information it asked you how active you were. You probably would have entered sedentary or lightly active. That accounts for your daily living and breathing.

It's probably confusing to someone new here to post a link to a calorie calculator that actually works in a different way to MyFitnessPal without explaining the difference.
It will come up with a different calorie goal.

@AlanP1000 If you go to the Getting Started forum there are some threads stickied there which are very helpful to read.
  • thanks, bit slow on uptake but I've got it now!
