Getting a fitbit is the best thing I've done thus far since trying to lose weight!

Whhhaaaat?? It took me exactly 23,478 steps yesterday to burn that 1,062 calories. And i'm taller and weigh more than you.
I think she means 2000 all day, not just from the run. I think running raises her TDEE for the day.

She's so right. You may burn 2000 calories total. But not because of walking. I walk 10,000 steps too and it's closer to 600 (I don't have my numbers in front of me).

Yeah I know. Still, it literally takes me all morning, afternoon and night to burn 1200 calories. I can't imagine what I'd have to do to burn 2000 calories
her post sounded like she burns 2000 just by walking 10,000 steps...

I didn't do any extra exercise while losing weight that I didn't plan to do forever.
This. I don't kill myself trying to hit cardio goals. I barely ever do over 30 min. at once, because I don't want to and never will. I also arrange my calories so that I have low days and high days, though it took me awhile to grasp the simplicity of it because I ALWAYS ate straight up to my calorie goal. It looks like my maintenance calories are going to be 1800-1900, which kind of sucks. But I don't need to eat a donut every day either, so I should be okay.0 -
so your tdee raises the more activity you do right?0

My BMR is 1259 (Doing nothing). Add activity and I burn about 2,000, yes.0 -

Just curious as to how you calculated your calorie burn? I used my Polar FT 7 and my FB Charge for my Power walk today. I'm 5'7", 134.4 Lbs. and my Polar HRM said I only burned 405 calories for going a little over 10,000 steps.
My BMR is 1259. Then I move. The walking etc. burn the extra 600 or so.
Both fitbit and MFP say I burn over 2k a day (my eating and maintenance suggests this is accurate).
I'm not sure a polar HRM is the best way to calculate NEAT.0 -

BMR means what you burn just being alive. Do things and that number goes up. Add 10,000 steps and that number goes up.0 -
Sabine, this is my sisters name. You're the only other Sabine I've "met"
Anyways, my BMR is 1394. Like I said my average calorie burn over the last week has been 1200 calories per day. I am soooo not a numbers person0 -

I am 5'6", 135ish. 50 years old. My BMR is 1259. Theoretically then by being alive I burn 1259 calories. Then by moving I burn more. Both fitbit and MFP tell me that my 10,000 steps of moving etc. give me an extra 800 or so calories burned a a day (800 calories ON TOP of the BMR number that it takes to keep me alive).
Does this make sense?
In theory then, given the 10,000 steps a day I should be able to MAINTAIN on around 2,000 calories. I don't count/log etc. regularly, so i don't know for sure, but I'd say I eat around 1800 calories a day, give or take. If I DIDNT walk 10,000 steps a day (and run ever other day and do Pilates every other day) I'd have to maintain on much less.
In theory if I wanted to lose, given my daily burn, I should be somewhere between 1259 and 2,000.

Oh, thanks. I get what you meant now. In my case with NEAT being Non-exercise activity I use my HRM for my power walks because my HR is getting as high as 130's to 160's from a resting rate of 52-58. I don't think this could be considered a non-exercise activity due to the speed of my walk and how fast I'm moving my arms as I walk. I could be wrong, though. At work I usually walk about 4 to 5 miles in an 8 hour period depending on how busy we are in the ER that day, so I would definitely say that would be calculated as NEAT.

I am not maintaining yet, but my BMR is 1789 according to calculators. According to my fitbit, my TDEE is somewhere between 2400 and 3400, depending on how active I am. The high days I break 15k steps, which means I was working (retail, sporting goods). Now, I still want to lose 70ish pounds, so that will reduce, but honestly, if I can maintain at 2000 calories or so at 5'9" I'd be perfectly happy.

OP I sympathize. I gain weight very easily. I'm not sure why, but I just do. My maintenance when I get to my goal will be fairly low as well as I have a sedentary job, which is why I will have to exercise if I want to eat more. I'm not a fan of exercise, never have been. But honestly, it takes one day of going over my calories to gain a couple pounds, whether it be water weight or actual fat, and AT LEAST two weeks to take it back off again. Some people say their pounds come off within a few days of overindulging as it's just water weight...not me. I've been at this since August and have dealt with this the whole time, which is why I try very hard to motivate myself to exercise and stay within my calories. Pounds that can take me weeks to lose will come back in one day, and then I have to lose them all over again. It's just not worth it. I don't have any words of wisdom for you. Just wanted to say I feel your pain. Just last night we went out to eat. I decided to endulge a bit and didn't count my calories. I didn't overdo it too bad. I got the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies. Still, I was two pounds up this morning, and it will likely be another couple weeks before they are gone. Happens every time.0

jnv7594 1 pound = 3500 calories. The scale can say you weigh 10 lbs more the next day but as long as you know you didn't eat 35000 calories it is not fat. Even though I am aware of this it will still be challenging to meet my maintenance and not consciously go over. And to the you guys who use fitbit hows is it any different then cardio? It tracks your steps and all but at the end of the day it is still cardio?

I am fully aware of this, which is why I mentioned water weight in my post. The point was, whether it be water weigh or fat, it takes forever for me to take it back off once it's on. Some people say they lose their weight within a few days of overindulging. I never have. It's like it took me weeks to get those pounds off, and then it takes weeks again to take them off after one night of overindulgence. So that one night always sets me back several weeks, regardless of what kind of weight it is.

Curious about fit bit:
So if I get one and gives me credit for my steps but not so much for lifting can I still add the calories that I burn according to my Polar hrm? Or it would be double tracking?
Here trying to decide if its worth buying one TIA!

You can log your weightlifting in MFP. It will ask you what time you started your activity.0
