Why does it have to be cardio?

If that is only option for some strange reason, then - One legged spin bike, swimming, arm ergometer, one legged mountain climber.

You can do a ton of push ups, pull ups, and ab exercises. Rotate between each with no breaks so your heart rate is elevated to the speed that you need. You can use the pyramid style so you start with low reps and build up to max failure and then back down.

Ask your doctor. "Sprained ankle" is a whole spectrum of severity. For a mild sprain, you can probably handle elliptical or arc trainer IF it doesn't hurt. For a severe sprain, you want to stay off it as much as possible to increase your chances of healing all the way.

Well said. If you're injured, focus on doing what you have to to get better first. Sometimes that means rest.
