still struggling even after gastric bypass surgery

Five months ago, my blood sugar was uncontrollable (averages= >300 daily). Instead of facing a lifetime of medicines including insulin injections, I decided to have gastric bypass surgery. Positive side = blood sugars are normal. Negative sidee = I am not losing anymore weight I have friends who had the surgery same time as me and lost 50-75 lbs, me?? stopped at 25 lbs. Very discouraging. so I'm back on a dieting program, joining a gym this weekend because I'm just not doing anything at home except walking, monitoring my food intake to see how many calories I'm eating daily and being totally honest. I hope this time I'll be sucessful. time will tell.

It's ever going to be easy, but it's always going to be possible. I wish you every success, would be happy to be a part of your support network, and I accept all friend requests.0

Thanks AJ, that would be fantastic. I'm new to this site (recommended by my doctor) who said it's very motivating with many supportive people . I'm not sure how to send a friend request yet, but happy to have you as a friend.0

Joy,
5 months ago I had gastric bypass surgery and to date I have lost 85 pounds. If you are not losing weight after gastric bypass then your metabolism is a mess. You might even have the obesity gene. I was tested and my metabolism is so off that i can eat as little as 500 calories a day and still not lose weight. I have overcome these things through excercise and being very sure not to take in too many calories.
Another thing is that many people do not get to the root of the problem before surgery and if you were a grazer and did not modify that behavior then you are most likely still grazing and instead of eating only three meals plus a shake then you are eating far more often.
Just remember it is simple calories and excercise are the key to success. You will get there just give it time.0 -
Wait, how much did you weigh when you got that surgery?0

I had Gastric Sleeve surgery last August. I have only lost 56 pounds so far. I have had plateus that have laste for 2 months. I have to take my calories down to 300 a day to lose any weight. I know my metabolism is messed up, that's why I had a very hard time trying to lose weight before the surgery. It just got worse after menopause started. I have to walk 3 miles a day and only eat 300 calories a day to lose weight. If I eat more calories, I gain.0

Surgery doesn't do anything to remedy the problem of eating correctly and exercise for health and fitness. Like anyone else trying to lose weight, there has to be a plan in place and then implemented.
