Is eating a bunch of small meals counter productive to gaining weight?

I've always been the type to eat a bunch of small meals (300-500 calories), rather than three large meals. I was told that because I eat so often my body never feels hungry and in turn it makes my metabolism fast. any truth to that or is it just nonsense?

Meal frequency is personal preference it makes no difference to your metabolism.0 -
It's all about the calories in vs. calories out - it doesn't matter when you eat them. If you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight - same goes for gaining, eat more than you expend.0
