Preserving Apple Slices

I know a lot of us felt a little betrayed to see how many calories and sugar were in apples. I especially LOVE Honeycrisp apples. They are my favorite and I love the fall when they are in season. But I stopped eating them when I joined this site.
Recently my grocery store had Piñata Apples along with a sample, and I liked them. I found a way to preserve the slices after you've cut them without them going brown.
Mine lasted in the fridge, white and crisp, for about a week.
For two apples I used four cups of water and 1/2 tsp of salt and had them soak sliced side submerged while I did other things. Maybe 20-25 minutes.
Here's a few other ways: http://www.theyummylife.com/prevent_apple_and_pear_slices_from_browning
I also only eat portions of a large banana at a time (another betrayal!) and I cap the sliced end off with a bit of aluminum foil and that does a really good job of keeping it rather fresh.
I hope this was helpful to someone! It definitely encourages me to get more fruit back in my diet after I was initially tracking sugar and freaking out before I found out I didn't need to, I cut out added sugars anyway so it isn't an issue anymore.
