Looking to loose 100#

A week and a half ago I went for a first time visit with what I hoped would be my new PCP. After years of having virtually no medical care I finally have insurance and an income that allows me to eat something better than Ramen noodles. I really wanted to find a doctor that could work with me on a couple of issues that have been bothering me for a long time. My knee pain and the difficulty I have with loosing weight.
In 2000 I weighed way over 300 pounds. At the time I went to the doc I had come down to 272 but it was very slow going. This despite the fact that my job is very physical (animal care) and in addition I work out at a dojo doing a martial art three nights a week for 2 hours, plus I work with horses both riding and trimming their hooves. So I'm not exactly sedentary.
I don't care much about looks but I do need to do something about the weight because of arthritis and chronic knee injuries which slow down my horsemanship and martial arts life at times.
My "new doc" took one look at me and after I told him all of the above told me to go on a 1200 calorie a day diet. I'll admit I was really ticked off and went right out and got a pizza. But after thinking about things for a couple of days I decided that calorie counting might not be a bad idea. I was certain that 1200 was way too low but thought I'd at least give it a try. I did around 1350 the first few days. Felt terrible. Tired, could not focus and very very hungry. I also dropped three pounds.
Someone recommended MFP on Facebook so I joined. Found that for a 2 pound a week weight loss I actually needed closer to 2400 calories a day. Much more reasonable. For the past week I have been logging food and exercise and coming in around 400 under my recommended allowance. Yesterday I was closer to my max and was not the least bit hungry. Actually I feel best when I eat about 1800-2000 calories which is still less than MFP recommends for me. I am really hoping that this will help. I would love to loose as much as possible before my shodan test in June and MFP has me on track to be about 40 pounds lighter by then, if I keep up the current rate. Down 4 pounds so far since starting with the logging and 7 since the visit with the Dr. So there is hope.
I know my horse will appreciate the lighter me to.
Meanwhile, I think I'm still looking for a Doctor...
