would you log your dinner if you ended up vomiting?

I know very weird question, but i had a little cup of soup last night with a piece of sour dough toast and I woke up around 4am this morning and vomited it all out. Im so sorry to sound gross but Im just wondering if I should log it since I didnt digest it

Having had Gastric bypass, food doesn't always stay down... for various reasons... I log everything I eat, but if I vomit, I put a note in for that day. I'd do whatever you feel will give you the best "snapshot" of your eating patterns. BTW, Hop you're feeling better now!

I don't think you should worry about it. The main concern should be why did you vomit?

If you are sick, don't worry about calories until you feel better!

I would log at least half of it, but honestly probably the whole thing. I would rather overestimate than underestimate. But in the end your body doesn't give a crap about what you log into your food diary, it just matters what you actually consume. So either way it doesn't really matter.

This happened to me... I was too sick to care about logging.. or unlogging. I didn't retrieve the stuff that came back up to weigh it to know how many calories it was..

I would just note it on notes for the day and hope to feel ok the next day and be back on plan.

I would log it. I would also give myself leeway the next few days if I felt hungry. Seriously, get better first, then get back to dieting.

kind of embarrassing why I vomited but I dont want all the sympathy that I was sick from the flu or somthing. I had 1 too many cocktils last night which was not sitting right in my stomach which woke me up randomly at 4 this morning and caused me to vomit :(

Did you log all the cocktails that made you vomit?

It was yesterday, forget it, start fresh today.

Getting drunk and throwing up = no pass from logging in my opinion. Hope you logged all those drinks too - the soup should be the least of your logging worries.

If you were honestly sick I'd give you a pass from logging but purposely making yourself sick means you own those calories.

Not that you purposely drank until you threw up - but we all know the affect of too much alcohol! :drinker:

will it make a difference either way? the log is meant for you to learn from and keep track of your day as the day happens... its over now. make a note of it whether u decide to log it or not (if u look back at previous days/weeks...if not, dont bother)

50% of stomach contents emptied 2.5 to 3 hours

Total emptying of the stomach 4 to 5 hours

So it depends on how many hours after eating it was that you threw up. Just calculate when you ate to when you threw up and then use the above timetables to give you a rough estimate of how much food you up chucked.

I'd log them all and make a note of it. I had a horrible day last weekend when I DRANK 2000 calories. My stomach met the same fate as yours and I still logged the burger and other random crap I ate while drunk. I just got on with my day (as much as I could lol) the following morning and well, that was last week. This week is this week. Move one :)

Log it and all the booze you had and learn from it!

Now I remember why I gave up drinking.... :)

Your body consumed the calories 20 minutes after eating according to my old eating disorder DR, so yes, I would log them if it were a few hours later.

    I think you're over-thinking it.

Huh? So you get "let off" calories if you vomit through no fault of your own, but have to "own" the calories if it was your own fault? Logging calories isn't punishment for bad behaviour. Your body will use energy (or not) regardless of the intention behind the behaviour.

OP - I would honestly not overthink it. Just leave your log as it is. If you feel the need to eat a little extra today to feel better - so be it. If you feel the need to not eat much today to feel better - so be it. It's really not going to make a difference to your long-term goals.

This happened to me one night after overeating and drinking (I'm a super light weight when it comes to drinking). Was sick in the morning and rest of next day. I just logged everything and kept it that way and focused on getting better and trying to keep down at least 1200 the next day. It's not like my diary is going to care that it ended up being less than I put in. Really logging is just to keep you mindful of what choices you're making. I'd leave it so you have a reminder of what choices you made, even if they didn't stick with you. Do whatever you need in order to get your system back to normal, then start fresh.
