Tendon sheath inflammation: Running + Resistance Training Help

Hello,
I'm a klutz who injured herself in the first 15 minutes of crossfit last October. I went to student health and they told me I had just rolled my ankle and it would get better, in a few days, but it was swollen for a long time and sore and I've had to stop running while I figure out what's up. Finally got in to see a specialist in late Feb, got an MRI, and because I was leaving the country 5 days after my visit, I couldn't have a follow up. Instead, they left me a message saying I have tendon sheath inflammation, but they won't tell me if I can run over the phone or what I should do about it.

I'm in South America right now and seeing a specialist would be extremely difficult. Has anyone had tendon sheath inflammation? Is this the sort of thing where it would be a bad idea to try easing back into running, and stopping when it hurts? I'm not a big runner (aI ony did 5k max every other day and am probably quite out of it now) but I have my sights set on a tough mudder in October and I don't want to sign up before I know I have enough time rto ramp up with the running.

I'm also trying to do some resistance training, but my gym here only has machines and no free weights. What are some good body weight exercises for a very weak and heavy person (f, 5'8, 229) to at least work on maintaining some muscle while I keep losing?

Thanks for your help!

Do you have a physiotherapist? I had an awful ankle injury just over a year ago that took forever to heal. It wasn't tendon sheath inflammation but my physiotherapist was a lifeline. I'd highly recommend seeing one, and if you can do it feel free to ignore everything I say next. I would not run, I would switch to an excercise like rowing. Since you're familiar with crossfit, get a voodoo floss band and search some youtube videos for how to use it to releave ankle inflammation.

Will you be back home soon to be able to get the follow up from your specialist? If not, can you get them to forward the results of the MRI to someone in South America to give you a plan of action?
