When you lose weight, the layer of fat (now covering your abs) will disappear (mostly). You lose weight wherever your body wants to, it's largely genetic. For example: I'm a pear shape, exercise won't change that. It does help....but there is no guarantee.
Strengthening your core is a good idea for health reasons. But you will have to be super careful with your back issues. A stronger core may help your posture, it may help you (naturally) hold things in a little more. But "hanging globs"....that's about losing weight.
There's a thread called....so you want a nice stomach. I'll try to find it.

OP if this was an attempt to sell you ANYTHING please report it.
If you have back issue, check with your doctor of course, but I have lower back problems and crunches tend to make it real achy, so I do mostly plank work and standing abs. I have some DVDs and Youtube workouts. One I really like is Jessica Smith's Cardio Abs workout. Nice all-around core work and I found it very low-stress for my back.0 -
Getting rid of the belly fat and strengthening your core are two different things. Eat at a deficit to lose the fat. Planks and variations are great for your core. Also compounds movements like squats, and variations and deadlifts engage your core. Obviously, only do these if medically cleared, though.0

Pilates is brilliant for strengthening your core if you do it properly. Have a few lessons with a proper teacher to learn the correct form, then you will be able to do the exercises at home in between classes.0

Thanks. I am eating at a deficit, and really not hungry, eating healthy stuff. My back surgeon told me to strengthen core, of course i had no idea what it meant. she did say no heavy lifting. i will check out the videos suggested.0
