Ok I had posted a few weeks ago about how I was going into a Bod Pod... A bod pod is the new way to get a 99% accurate reading of your body fat. They use this now instead of the one the submerge you under water with. Anyway the results are in...
I have 27% body fat... I was kinda disapointed to hear this I was hoping for lower lol... My scale at home says I had 23% so i didn't like to hear it was more :(
Then when I read magazines with success stories and girls in way less shape then me say they are 23% fat I feel like "wtf!" Anyway I was telling the guy who runs this my dispointment and he kept saying 27 % is heathly and even if I was less, it wouldn't make me any healthier, just look different lol.
Then he told me that the body fat scales, pinch tests, and any other body fat test other than the underwater one, and bod pod were almost always off by 8%!! wow!! that is a huge difference!
So i guess I can feel better when I hear girls brag about how their scale said they were only 20% body fat and they never work out, cause they are probably closer to 28% !

Anyway... even though its just a number and I am in the healthy range, I still want to be fricken 23% lol !! Why does this bother me so much??? I feel great, I have never looked better, and yet this still drives me nuts!

So be warned... those body fat scales you think are giving you the right reading are prob lying to you... but I think I liked when I thought I was less lol !!

I just use my scale (w/body fat reading) as a guideline to see how much it changes. The reading will skyrocket when I'm dehydrated, but otherwise will read about the same. I got in a bike accident last weekend & have 3rd degree road rash on my right arm and leg & they are terribly swollen right now (lots of fluid) and I got a 6% BF reading this morning! I am normally ~"23%" according to that scale, just to show how inaccurate it can be!

I had mine done underwater and it was 18%. I was at our company's Health Fair and the onsite gym's booth had one of those hand-held ones. It claimed my body fat was 27%! Anyone looking at me can tell how ridiculous that is. I'm very lean.

It didn't ask for a fitness level just height, weight and age and all those formulas assume us old folk aren't that fit.

I use the following site to calculate my body fat:
    http://www.linear-software.com/online.html

I use a simple cheap caliper and also compare it to the simple waist measurement one. They are within 1% of each other. The body fat scale I have at home is says I'm at 16.6% body fat. Using calipers, I am 9.5%. Using waist measurement, I'm at 10.5%. I've seen pictures online of people claiming they have 6% body fat, but don't look lean as I do. So I say throw up the BS flag. I want to be 6% body fat and I expect to be freaking ripped if I ever do get there.

Yeah, it's my favorite too. It has a big list of different methods you can try. Even has videos each measurement. Very cool.

I just did the Bod Pod test a couple week ago. I was also really suprised and dissappointed with my results- 31.2% body fat! The trainer at my gym said that hand held device they use at the gym is pretty inaccurate but I was not expecting it to be THAT off. I had just measured at 23% with it a week earlier. So it seems 8% is exactly how off it was!

So, I was put in the "Poor" category. :( I've been working out since the begining of the year. When I took the test I was 148 lbs at 5'9". I thought I was doing pretty dang good! At first it was pretty depressing (and disgustting when you think about that percentage in pounds of fat!) but it's become really motivating. I've spent a lot more time reading up on food and nutrition and figuring out what my body needs to be healthy.

I would like to get to about 20%. I'll do the Bod Pod again in August and I'll share what happens. I'd love to hear updates from you too. Good luck!

I would love to get down to 20% also, but i don't think its even possible for me. I would probably have to drop another 20 lbs to get there, and not to toot my own horn but I feel like im pretty fing lean right now... where the hell would 20 lbs come from???? I just need to remember that 27% is very healthy and those lower percentages are meant for like super athletes and people in olympics lol

Its all in how you feel! and i feel great~

I agree! I don't think you have another 20 pounds to lose. It's just a number and you look great, you feel great don't worry about it!
