Elliptical calories are way off! Dangit!

Just FYI the elliptical has been giving me 500 calories for 30 minutes, but using the formula below I end up closer to 420:

Men:
Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.2017) + (Weight x 0.09036) + (Heart Rate x 0.6309) -- 55.0969] x Time / 4.184

Women:
Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.074) -- (Weight x 0.05741) + (Heart Rate x 0.4472) -- 20.4022] x Time / 4.184.

This confirms what I already knew.

I'll be testing the step mill next.

Luckily I never eat back my exercise calories. :-) I always figure it over-estimates them, so even when I do go over my daily expense account, it's never more than 100-200 cals tops.

i feel ya on the math bruh, but to be on the safe side, i tend to just plug in the numbers and not to eat back cals burned

According to that formula the elliptical I usually use at my gym is really close to being accurate for me! I've always estimated I should shave off about 200 calories/hr and I'll probably continue to do that just in case my math is poor (and based on your discrepancy). Thanks for the formula :)

    This site has a calculator:

Came within 2 calories of doing the formula manually.

I am very relieved after doing the calculation that the Life Fitness elliptical I use is quite accurate. AWESOME!
