What do you eat when you are sick?

Ideally, I would make a lovely chicken soup with fresh veggies but the reality is I feel like crap and I am way more likely to eat something easy and usually not very good for me. What do you choose that doesn't require a lot of work but gives your body what it needs to recover from illness?

I might be a bad example, but if I am home alone and sick, I too reach for the easiest thing to cook since probably even just being vertical is a chore. This usually means something like boxed macaroni and cheese and hotdogs...0

My children are most definitely getting Mac and Cheese and chicken nuggets for dinner.

Its just as importnat to hydate. I normally go for soemthing I cna keep down. I might have some complan meak replacement, toast, rice pudding, soup or just anything I fancy. Just simple food is what I go for.0

I usually eat a lot of fruit that doesn't need any prep - bananas, strawberries, grapes, oranges, that kind of stuff. I also like string cheese and while it isn't the best, a nice bowl of sugary cereal. Mostly, I just make sure to drink enough water because that's what's most important when you're sick.0

If I have stomach issues- brat diet, plus saltines and dry cereal. Seven up or sprite.
If I have a cold-canned soup. Ramen noodles. Orange juice. NyQuil.0 -
If I have no tummy issues I eat whatever the hell I want. Oddly enough, one of the only times I eat fast food is when I'm sick. Something about McDonalds salty nuggets and fries makes me happy when I have a head cold. Not exactly healthy.0

I am sick right now and have been living off of chicken noodle soup in a can. I always keep either healthy choice or campbells healthy heart on hand all year long for times like this. I am not proud of this but I did get my kids mcdonalds for dinner last night and tonight I am bringing home a rotisserie chicken and a salad for them from the grocery store. I also have whole wheat saltines and ginger ale. I am sick to my stomach so water is hard for me to keep down I have tried seltzer but ginger ale seems to be the best. If its just a cold I would stick to water.0

chicken noodle soup, peanut butter toast, ginger ale. those are my "feel better" foods!0

I usually have canned soup and crackers, gatorade to try to stay hydrated, and Vernors to calm my stomach.0

Saltines and flat Coke- also takeout matzoh ball soup or ramen from the cupboard. Soothing and easy to digest.
Once my stomach's recovered a little, I try to introduce some yogurt in fairly soon; it makes my system re-balance itself a little more quickly. Mmm...probiotics. With cherry jam!0 -
Well yesterday I had 12 crackers, 7-up, and water. It was all I could do to eat and drink that.
Today, I've had some peanut butter on crackers and coffee. My plan is some fruit and yogurt later in the day, depending on how it goes with the crackers I just ate.

I am pretty sure it is different every time also depends on what kind of sick. If it is just a cold the same as I do every other day. The flu usually a day of just water than last time I had orange sherbet because it was the only thing that sounded good. Sometimes it is cream cheese toast. So nothing really healtht but, puking 7 times a day you just eat what sounds good.0

My ultimate .omfort food is cream of wheat made with full fat milk and raisins. Takes me right back to being a little kid, except my Auntie made it with full fat milk AND sugar AND condensed milk. I use a teaspoon of sugar and then stevia.0

Chicken noodle soup (or any soup I have on hand), Bolthouse Farm smoothies (sipped slowly - calorie bombs!) are staples for sick days. If it's a tummy bug, then I also try to follow BRAT. If it's a sore throat I add ice cream and tea to my arsenal. Just general malaise, then I'll eat whatever is easiest to cook, and/or live off of Amy's frozen meals if I don't also have to feed the family. I try to keep lots of bone broth, cooked shredded meat and frozen veggies in the fridge so I can pull together a healthy soup quickly0

If it's a head cold something spicy like veggie curries or chilli with loads of garlic ginger and fresh veg, nuts or seeds for zinc and fruit for vitamin c.
For stomach problems I'm emetophobic so I fast and am wary of eating again but have ginger tea for nausea, and little light things at first like crackers, biscuits like ginger nuts. I'll usually lose a ton of weight but I'd rather not go through that for it, lol0 -
Usually when I'm sick I'm not very hungry. Hot milk and toast is a standard that I got from my mother. Soup and lots of fluids, whether it's juice, tea, or just plain water.0

Kraft Mac & cheese or grilled cheese are my two go to foods when I'm sick.0

I'm dealing with strep and gastritis simultaneously right now. I fasted for 24 hours from the onset of the gastritis, drinking only water and chamomile tea, then blended a banana and some fresh pineapple, sipped some grape juice, and had a shot of some ultra vitamin cherry smoothie thing. Yesterday, I had a banana, a single serving of unsweetened apple sauce, and got up to cook dinner. Threw some frozen chicken in the boyfriend's flavor wave oven, mashed potatoes, and sauteed asparagus, scallions, and corn.
Cooking it was easy (with a little help lifting the pot of boiling water and potatoes), but hand washing the dishes made me ache all over. But we have leftovers to make tonight easier!
I wish I could figure out what to eat to prevent the gastritis...0 -
It depends what sort of sick you mean? If I'm vomming I might manage some toast with butter and a glass of water.
When I had "morning"sickness I couldn't stand anything that had a smell. So lots of very bland foods.
What is this boxed Mac and cheese of which you speak? I get that macaroni is a type of pasta and cheese is probably a cheese sauce but in a box?0 -

In the U.S. They sell Mac and cheese in a box- pasta and powdered cheese sauce. Add milk and butter and it's done. Not even close to the deliciousness that is Mac and cheese made from scratch, but it's fast comfort food.0 -
Buttered noodles, chicken & rice soup, saltines, and ginger ale - I eat what will make me feel better, and what I can keep down. Went through it this week - not fun.0

I make my boyfriend pick up chicken noodle soup and crackers from a local restaurant for me. Also chinese food delivery soup when I'm alone. Hot and sour, wonton, wonton egg drop! I've been living off it all week.0

It depends on what I am sick with...
If I have a cold/sore throat/flu, I try to push as many fluids as possible to help flush it out of my system. I've found that homemade smoothies are great for soothing a sore throat, as are frozen fruit bars and popsicles. Soup is great, just try to go for one without a ton of sodium! Also I eat a lot of fruits and veggies to help with my vitamin C intake to fight off those germs.
If I have the stomach virus, it's generally whatever I can keep down. I definitely still try to push fluids to keep myself hydrated. If I can't keep solids down, I'll drink some G2 (the light version of Gatorade) to try and keep from getting all dehydrated and woozy. If I can keep solids down, I go with the classic BRAT diet... bananas, rice, apple sauce, and (plain) toast. Also, I remember as a kid my mom would give us ginger ale to settle our stomachs, so that or ginger tea could work as well!0
