42 years. 5'9. 199. Goal is 160.
My TDEE is 2300
My BMR is 1624

Do I eat 1600 and 1/2 cals back ( if I set it to sedentary lose 1 lb)
Or active and lose 1.5 lbs ... Gives me 1840

I workout 6x week. Strong curves 3x ; cX and yoga 2x and cardio intervals once.
I'm confused as hell

If your TDEE really is 2300 and you want to lose a pound a week, you'd want to eat about 1800 a day, it seems to me. Then, after a couple of weeks or so, see what effect the 1800 is having and maybe adjust a little.

    Easiest explanation I have-
TDEE = eating a set amount everyday
NEAT = calorie goals that change based on what you do each day

Typically if you take a week of eating based on NEAT and average it out, it ends up right around what you would get to eat with TDEE. Example:

    My average intake is 2013
    My estimated TDEE is 2581
If I did TDEE- 20%, my goal would be 2064.
Currently I'm using NEAT, but my average comes out pretty close to what TDEE would give me everyday.

With some over simplification, you burn calories: 1) staying alive (keeping your heart beating, lungs respirating, etc; 2) routine life activities (doing laundry, working, etc); 3) digesting food; and 4) exercising. BMR = 1, NEAT = 1,2 and 3, TDEE = all 4. BMR is an unimportant #. Either eat TDEE minus a calorie deficit or NEAT minus a calorie deficit plus exercise.

That is a pretty nifty summary for this recurring question. I am going to steal it! Well done.

Why bother? Just use MFP's settings. That's all I did and lost 35 pounds; that's all I do to maintain (since Nov of 2011). KISS principle.
