Hi, I've been rowing in an 8 for the last 5 years but got a bit bored with the difficulties of getting the crew together so am now concentrating on double sculling. I'm trying to track it in the exercise section but really don't think it's similar to canoeing! I scull at at least half pressure/ three quarter pressure most of the time with sprints of firm for 3 or 4 x 500m. Any advice/ideas on calories burned? Thanks

Just thought I'd say hi as I love rowing! I'm trying to get back on the water. If I do an ergo I burn about 100 calories/10 minutes. I hope it helps. Happy to connect too! I've been dragon boating which is mostly sprinting and that burns about 500 calories/hour.

Hi there, interesting about the erg. I've just done 60 minutes double sculling including some pieces which MFP calculates at 413 - I'm knackered and need a lie down! It must be more than that. Happy to connect (not sure how to do that as both brain cells are in need of a nap!)

I normally set the damper on 4, aim for 22 spm, and try to keep the split below 2:30. For me that means I would have trouble talking in sentences. The dragon boat drills are short sprints with rests in between, so I could burn more by going for a bike ride. I think the burn would be higher if you are doing some pieces in a double and rowing light in between.

Having said all of that, a heart rate monitor would help with estimating calorie burn.

True - I had one once but not sure where it's migrated to! I'm trying to get as fit as possible and decrease my weight as that will help everything including my double buddy as I have a 2 day sculling course in 48 days (but who's counting ........) B)
