I was wondering about this.... I've been adding egg to oatmeal to up my protein in the morning, but I enjoy smoothies too as I can pack in the greens... May have to try this on the weekend!

Half the protein in the white is not bioavailable when eaten raw, just thought I'd mention that.

Yup. Rocky had it wrong. I eat egg whites every day, but cook them.

Just watch out for salmonella. Back when I was a kid, it was common to give a sick kid an "egg nog" -- milk with a raw egg beaten up in it. As my 90+ mother has said in the meantime, it's just lucky she didn't poison us kids. If you are going to do this, you would be wise to stick to pasteurized eggs -- at least in the US -- although the salmonella situation is improving. I had a raw egg with my shake :) Found out it wasn't a pasturised egg.. Was in chronic abdominal pain for 3 days after.. I'll never do it again.

So it's a waste of 70 calories by adding a raw egg everyday?

I have several raw eggs every morning with some heavy whipping cream. Best shake ever!!
Salmonella is not as big of an issue as everyone makes it out to be. Only about 1/20,000 eggs are infected, that means you have a 0.00005 chance of coming across an infected egg. On the other hand there are a lot more reported outbreaks of salmonella from other sources. Here is the CDC reports on investigations of salmonella outbreaks from 2006-2014. Eggs are never mentioned.

I use pasteurized egg whites from a carton in. Y shakes, and from what I can tell, the pasteurization cooks the egg whites so that they are 100% bioavailable.
