Gastric Bypass

I am not new to Fitness Pal but I have been mia for about half a year. I have been going through the selection process for gastric bypass and because of thismomentous decision I went off the rails food wise. In preparation of the surgery I have a slew of dietician appointments, social worker appointments and Dr appointments. I am now retraining myself in regards to food so that I have good habits in place so the surgery is a long term success. After the gastric bypass and the year of healing I will then have plastic surgery to remove the excess skin. This is not a decision to be made lightly and is a decision of last resort. I have spent the last 2 weeks floundering trying to get a grip on my food intake and I have realized I need to get back on MFP and pre plan my food in advance to avoid any mindless emotional eating. It is my intention to journal my experience so that others can learn from it.

Good luck, I'm sure that big of an undertaking is a huge decision. It sounds like you are here now to get your head in the right place as far as eating goes. I'm sure your social work appointments and Dr. appointments will also be good at helping with this. Looking forward to following your journey!0

You are very smart for trying to get a handle on food and adopting a healthier lifestyle before you have the surgery. I'm nine years post-op and have maintained 100+ pound weight loss. I've put a little back on because I wasn't following the long-term post-op guidelines. But now I'm back in a weight loss mode. Something I would strongly recommend is that you start experimenting with protein supplements now. Some protein supplements are horrendous and if you don't like the taste then you are not going use that supplement especially if it's an unflavored protein. These are my favorite protein supplements. 1. Isopure Natural Unflavored Whey Isolate protein powder is a very light powdered protein that dissolves quickly and doesn't have that nasty protein powder taste. 2. EAS Myoplex protein powders and ready to drink chocolate and vanilla are very good. I use the powder sometimes when I make smoothies. I use the ready to drink to flavor my coffee. 3. Muscle Milk Light ready to drink is another one of my go-to's. I use them the same way as the Myoplex. Another recommendation I would make is get started on a walking program now so that after your surgery you will be more likely to maintain a walking program. I did this and lost 13 pounds prior to my surgery. Good luck and please feel free to friend me. I'd be happy to help keep you motivated.0
