Same here, & i'm grumpy about it. :-( Not fat, not too outta shape (did 2 1/2 marathons last year), & don't eat that all terribly, so it seems unfair. (Dang genetics) im 56 (today, as a matter of fact) and scored 6.5 on a silly blood test, up from 6.4 last yr. So got told to see nutritionist, who gave me carb-counting diet. Grrr. Worst part is I know I should be grateful cuz really im pretty fortunate. Are you grumpy, too? Is yours "manageable" w just diet & exercise?

Welcome :) Some tips you might find helpful:

Use a scale if you can - measuring cups aren't as accurate (sometimes up to 100 grams off which can be a LOT of calories!)

Veggies are really filling - throw them into a put with gravy and a little meat to make your meals go a long way!

I know you have diabetes but try out some sweeteners to see if they affect you - you may be able to have some sugar-free treats on your journey - maybe consult your doctor too!

Don't try to cut out everything you love, instead try to fit - for example a pack of crisps - into your calorie goal! It can really help you stick to it!

Exercise - walking is better than sitting my friend! Try walking lengths in the pool if you have any joint problems as it's much easier and if you ask many pools have slots of time allocated to people doing this sorta stuff!

Only eat about 50% of your exercise calories, because this site over-estimates them a little!

Anything else you need help with - mfp and I are usually happy to help

Diabetes is a scary diagnosis! You can add me as a friend if you like. I was prediabetic before I lost my 86 pounds!

I scored an 11.6, yes I know very Bad but I'm trying to manage it. My doctor doesn't want to put me on insulin right away because she wants to see if losing weight will help it. They put me on a 1500 calories per day diet.

I originally started with a no carbs diet and that definitely had me grumpy..... Lol

You can do this! You can add me if you'd like; I've eaten ~1500 calories for about a year and lost ~80 pounds. My diary is open to my friends if you want to see what I eat.

I started exercising with a stationary bike, then went to walking, then riding a real bike, then jogging, and now I can jog over 3 miles.

This site is the best as long as you find a good support network and are honest with yourself (on the good days and the bad!)!
