I really need some encouragement and words of wisdom. I'm gaining pounds by the day. This is my first time in thirty years I've ever dieted. I'm addicted to all the wrong food and always have been. After two kids I can't continue to eat this way. Bread, soda, pasta... aghhh I'm thirty pounds over weight. Help

First off, you can do this, anyone with the desire to change can.
Honest tracking of what you eat will work, you don't have to give up foods you enjoy, you just need to eat a serving (ie an ounce of Doritos as a snack and not a bag) and log it. Telling yourself you can never eat those foods you love again will only wind up as a failure to achieve your goal. Exercise is also your friend, you don't have to kill yourself in the gym, walking is better than sitting on the couch.
Some days will be harder than others, but starting slow and realizing you did not gain your weight overnight so taking it off will also not happen overnight. Accepting that is the first step. Set realistic goals for yourself, a simple 20 min walk 3 times a week, even if it doesn't seem like it is working, is setting up a foundation of exercise consistency and burns more than doing nothing at all.
Start now, because time moves even if you don't and as the months go by you don't want to regret looking back 3 months from now saying to yourself "wow, I gave up because I only lost a pound a week and I could have been 12lbs lighter right now if I had continued...".
If you can try and stick with whole unprocessed foods if possible and drink half your body weight in ounces of water everyday. Baked or grilled chicken breast, roast pork tenderloin, and broiled steak tips are all great sources of low cal clean protein. Buy a steamer basket and steam frozen vegetables, minute brown rice, steel cut oats, all great sources of clean carbs. Raspberries, bananas and apples are good fiber sources that are sweet.
I hope my 2 cents helps....

Me too!! You can do it!! I am 60 pounds over weight, and this is my 5th day. I go to bed thinking about all the foods I just want to shove in my mouth lol!! But I try to stay positive, and have atleast 1 naughty food that I want a day. two days ago I ate two slices of pizza from little ceasars. Yesterday I had hardys for breakfast. I was still able to stay within my calories. You can so do it. I had a migrain first two days, but I'm good now, And when you see the results you will feel so good!! Stay strong, and just try to learn as you go, thats what im doing improving day by day, dont give up if you have a bad day!!0

Thanks Brittany. . I'm trying not to even stop at a drive thru bc once I start, it's not going to stop. I'm going to push to do good everydayand once a week I'll reward myself. I'm going to try that lol. It's only day one and all day I've thought about greesey food. The last couple of months (after eating like crap forever) is the only time I've gained weight in my life. It's scary0

ratrapper made some brilliant points here and I only want to add a little of what I wish I'd known:
- Find out what foods fill you up best.
- Spend a couple minutes looking through recipes every now and then - same stuff gets boring and so will the diet, but it doesn't have to be!
- Diet soda. If you can find one you like because you may find drinking your calories leaves you very very hungry and I remember the pain - it's really worth letting your taste buds get used to diet!
Best of luck!0 -
Add me if you would like. I have well over 100lbs to lose, have already lost 15lbs yes still a ways to go. Diets don't work, it's all about portion control and increase activity, taking it slow and steady, so you stay healthy and keep it off. Be honest with yourself and track everything. You can do this..0

Girl this great positive advice and I second it! I'm 5 days in my diet to lose 110lbs. It's been intense and difficult. I love to cook exquisite guilty pleasure meals and eat them plus seconds and snacks. I know your pain, but the first step is a move in the right direction. You can do it!!!0 -
