I'm wondering how to know the amount of calories in certain foods l cook, like meatloaf or casseroles? So far I just weigh it and search for something in the database that sounds close enough. Oh and,my first time exercising too.. It's my 5th day of Shawn T's "T25" .. I'm super sore and don't know wether I should just rest when I'm sore or try to work through it..

  • I usually just do the same thing and find things that seem close enough. The exact value of your calories doesn't really matter, its more of just seeing how much you've eaten and knowing when you need to eat more or less and what nutritional values you're slacking on.

As for exercise and being sore, I've always heard conflicting opinions. Typically when you've excercised for a while you can tell the difference between possible injury and soreness. I'm guessing you're just sore, so I would work through it. But if its too painful just take a day off, maybe even two. Just dont break your exercising habit. Don't worry about all of this stuff too much, its supposed to be fun making the new you! :)

Yes! Thank you! that makes a lot of sense and makes me feel more confident about my judgement. I tend to over analyze and stress

You can always use the recipe function and it will calculate what the nutritional value is :)

The recipe function is one of the best thing about MFP. I've used other calorie counting apps in the past, but none of them allow you to take a recipe from the web or your personal recipe and save it for repeated use. I love it, because I primarily cook all my meals.

I just discovered how to use the recipe option which is amazing because I have definitely been underestimating calories. You can choose your own serving size and all that, it is great.
