Do people really have hobbies these days?

On dating sites, and CVs, I don't really know what to put for hobbies. I am interested in lots of different things, and there are different things I would like to try, skills I would like to pick up, but there isn't much I'm really good at. It seems like I just hang out on the internet or watch tv.

1) do you think most people have hobbies, in the traditional sense?
2) what are your hobbies/interests?
3) what do you put down as your hobbies on your cv?
4) what hobbies/skills would you like to develop?

    I think...well, find, that on the dating sites, people often say things to make themselves appear more interesting...but in reality, not too many actually have "traditional" hobbies or would admit to them. Like...I love to crochet, Im not putting that ish on a dating profile LOL!!!

    So for hobby / past-time I put down things I like to do when Im not working...going to happy hour with friends, going to the movies, the beach, go on road trips and visit museums etc... I just list stuff I enjoy so that its clear I dont just work and sleep and am generally boring. Even though 90% of the time, all I do is work and sleep and am generally boring (LoL!) But if I had someone to do those things with, Id get out and do them more often, so its not a lie.

    Id like to get back to studying language..trying to learn German.

    I have a lot of hobbies: running, ballet, flute, yoga, painting, ect. I don't have a dating profile or anything tho lol

    I have many hobbies. I am an artist and a crafter, I also knit and quilt. I get paid to take photos too. This year I would like to take up clay throwing so that I can make wool bowls. I teach too. Making pure natural, soap is really rewarding; it makes a sensational gift too.

    I really enjoy writing music, and playing shows at bars and stuff. It's really great, especially when the crowd is way into it.

    I have too many hobbies! I like drawing, painting, scrapbooking, photography and pretty much anything artistic. I also enjoy watching TV, movies, working out and playing computer games. There's not enough time in the day for it all!

    I really don't have any hobbies and find I have the same problem when making a dating profile...then guys are like well what do you like to do and I'm like uh...work out? lol

    I mean I like to read, go to the movies, the beach, road trips, I enjoy music, gardening, hiking/walking with my dogs...

    I am going to be taking some kayaking lessons soon because that looks fun to me but other than that..I work and go to the gym...

    3. If I had a CV I'd put that pretty much! And socialising I think counts - do you like to go to clubs or costas sorta stuff - on dating profiles!
    4. I want to get back into dancing - there is a pole dance class I am interested in because it can really get you flexible and strong, plus it looks beautiful when put into ballets and such :D

    I sail, fish, snorkel, bicycle riding, hiking, paint fine art and not so fine, write, play chess and more. It is a sad waste of years and life to do nothing but work and watch TV, but it's a rut I've been in before also so I'm not judging. It's never too late to change and start living life to the fullest.

    Hi there. Since I am German I thought Ill post this here since you said you wanted to learn German. it would be great to have some german speaking people here :)

    Hobbies? Cooking, reading, scrapbooking and going to the beach, does that count? oh yeah, and playing racquetball, one of my favorite sports.

    gardening, mechanics, doing crafty things

    I haven't had to have a CV! I probably wouldn't come up with what to say on demand like that lol

    I try any and everything and usually if I completely suck the first time, I won't do it again

    1.) Until this thread it had never occurred to me that there might be people who didn't have a hobby
    2.) My hobbies are painting, baking, lifting weights, and beach-combing
    3.) I don't have a CV. I have a resume but it doesn't include my hobbies.
    4.) I pretty much would like to stick to the ones I already have. My problem has always been too many interests. I tend to get easily distracted.

    I don't think it's completely gone. I think many people still have some "traditional" hobbies, but as technology changes, our hobbies and interests will inevitably change

    My school's Model UN team (researching and representing a country) has become my biggest hobby as of late. I also don't know if you would count this as a hobby but I recently started volunteering at an organization that is dedicated to abolishing human trafficking in our state. Somebody else said they wanted to learn German, which is a language I just decided to pick up as well as Arabic. Also love hiking, lifting weights, lifting cats, etc. I'm going to start kayaking and possibly white water rafting this summer!

    Model UN, volunteering, and language skills are a definite! I might bring up my other ones in an interview if the employer wants to know what I do for funsies but I doubt it

    4) what hobbies/skills would you like to develop?
    I really want to develop the languages I've already begun taking (Arabic and German) and possibly go on to other languages (maybe French and Russian?) and generally develop my public speaking skills. Something that Model UN is helping me with is developing my people skills. I'm a total extrovert but I tend to just say things that are on my mind regardless of how tactful they are :tongue: Definitely need to work on that

    My hobby is cooking because it goes well with my other hobby...eating. Also, volunteering... some of the most fun I've had since I retired. Oh yeah, I read a lot too.

    I can't imagine not having a hobby. Wire wrapping, making paper bead jewelry, watercolor, sketching, crocheting, sometimes knitting, playing MMOs, hiking (which I need to do more!), sculpting... I just need to do more physical stuff.

    1) okay, I am over 50. In fact, over 55. So can't really judge, but I think my 20 year old daughter has hobbies ... I think.
    2) reading, writing fiction, fitness, running are at the top of the heap.
    3) I have been in the same job for so long it's not funny, and hope to retire from there. Eventually. Someday. So what CV?
    4) backpacking, more travel, getting published at least by myself, still-water kayaking, scrap-booking, more time to do my personal blog, branching my writing into different genres, playing WoW some more (hey come on, MMORPG's are a hobby right?), maybe relearning the Calculus.

    Here's a hint, OP: BY DEFINITION, my profession is what someone is willing to pay me for. My AVOCATIONS are what I love, and will do for no pay whatsoever. I don't have to be good at it for it to count as a hobby. I currently run 11 minute miles, which nobody would claim is being good at running, but I love it. And I do it often. So it's a hobby :D

    I think that hobbies are very important. Many people don't take the time to cultivate hobbies because, by default, they use their time on passive activities like surfing the internet and watching T.V. I'm sure I surf the Internet far too much, though I'm happy to say that I spend many hours a week reading, knitting, drawing, trying to learn Spanish with Rosetta Stone, fooling around on the piano and recorder, and cooking. The best way to begin is to free up some time and try out some things to see if you like them.
