Losing weight very fast?

Okay, so my wife and I started our healthy lifestyle ORIGINALLY just about 2 years ago. Unfortunately we fell off the wagon at around 6 months (right around the holidays) and we never really got back to it. Well, fast forward to last week. We had decided in March that it was time to straighten up. We gave ourselves a couple weeks to prepare our minds for the switch back and we made the change last Saturday. On weigh in, I was back up very close to where I was when we had started 2 years prior. Over the last week, we have been eating well (no meals skipped, nice full meals, even got very close to our cal limits one night). Well it has been a week and time for weigh in. I wake up, use the restroom, all the things I had done the last time we were doing weekly weigh ins. I lost, according to my scale, 8.8 LBS. IN A WEEK!? I didn't believe it and chalked it up to a dying battery in the scale. Changed the battery. Same thing. My wife goes to weigh in. She is down 5.2 LBS in a week!! We have been doing nightly workouts but nothing extreme. We aren't starving ourselves. Is there any reason why weight would come off this fast?? Is it because we had done it before and our bodies were still accustomed to our old eating and exercise habits? I always heard it is typically more slow going the second time around. I'm not complaining because if it's legit, and we know we lost it the right way, screw it. I'll take it. Just looking for some insight.

It's common to lose a lot the first couple of weeks because of water weight. Your loss should slow down to a normal healthy rate soon. If you keep having losses that are much bigger than expected, consider upping your calorie intake. You don't want to lose TOO fast - slow and steady wins the race!0

Your initial weight loss is likely to use up some of your carbohydrate ready reserves. Each gram used releases an extra 4 grams of water to which it was bound.
This additional water weight loss will reverse at times (and/or when you are no longer eating at a deficit) and has been known to cause consternation as it can create swings that mask the underlying and consistent fat loss you may also be experiencing.
Do remember that MFP goals already include the weight loss you've dialed in, and MFP envisions that you will be eating back your true net exercise calories (which of course are quite hard to accurately figure out).
Weight loss of **up to** 1% of body weight per week on a consistent basis is generally considered safe/within the limits of reasonable.
If you are near your goal weight and are neither "obese" nor "overweight", if you consistently continue to experience a higher rate of loss than 1% per week, you may want to re-examine your goals, activity levels, exercise and exercise eat back.

Keep track of things for a month and see what you lose each week. If it's still too high, time to increase your calorie intake a little!

When you start you lose a lot. I lost in the first month 32 pounds..... water weight. I had a lot of water was totally blown up like a balloon. The second month was pretty much the same. But after that i came i a kinda regular loss per week.
and now almost 6 months later it slowed down. Also because my calories are more up by 100 a day. But still i lost 85 pounds since October 2014. I still lose 1 to 2 pounds a week.
Just keep doing what your doing look at it for 4 weeks. When your overly hungry or light headed and lose a lot of weight ( to fast) up your calories with 100 a day for another 4 weeks. Do this till you find a comfortable balance.
I am fine with 1200 ( this for medical reasons) and now up to 1300. But still eat just above the 1200 instead of closer to the 1300. But on training days i eat on top of that 25% of my burned calories back. Also when i have days that i am more hungry, i eat a couple hundred calories more. I dont see this as going over my calorie allowance or cheat days. I just made my deficit smaller that day.
My weight loss stays steady all the way, no plateaus no gaining hardly fluctuations.
I eat everything but in moderation, portion control and i cook from scratch...healthy choices.
I only dont eat added salt and watch out with added sugar ( medical reasons).
