Lot of variables there but for a brisk walk I will say about 15 minutes. For my wife about 20 minutes.

    ...really?

Um... depends on how "brisk" brisk is for you. Are you trying to compete with someone? Are you settling a bet? Are you trying to better your mile?

Brisk is a weird word by the way.

Short legs or long legs? If I try to keep up with my husbands long "brisk" walking strides I am jogging, and not walking any longer

I was going 70 miles an hour and got stopped by a cop who said, "Do you know the speed limit is 55 miles per hour?"

"Yes, officer, but I wasn't going to be out that long..."

20 minute mile is 3.0 mph and for me burns about 120 calories according to my heart rate monitor

20 minutes for you based on average.

60 mins in an hour....so if it takes you 20 mins to walk a mile that's 3mph and if it takes you 15 mins, that's 4mph. Adjust accordingly.

When I walk "briskly" that's about 4mph, so 15 minutes for a mile.

Not sure, but rumor has it that the Millennium Falcon can make the Kessel run in less than 12 Parsecs.

    I disagree w/all of you.
    It should be 10-12 max
Most ppl can run a mile in 9mins.
I run a mile in 6 mins. It used to be 4 mins

I can't tell if you're joking or if you missed the part where she was asking about walking?

Not everyone is on the same level. I've been running for a year, and it still takes me 9-10 mins to run a mile and 15 mins to walk one. OP is probably a beginner.

Trust me I didn't "miss" anything..so watch your tone, mmmkkkk.
It should still only take 12 mins max walking briskly.

RUNNING I would agree with you
WALKING like the Original Poster said, 15-20 minutes

Here's an idea, maybe put on a stop watch or an HRM and get the detes yourself, instead of relying an internet forum to tell you.

    Svetlana, is that you?

Are you measuring in metric minutes or maybe you are thinking kilometers?

Precisely. 9 or 10 minute mile is probably average for novices... I've been running for over two years and I'm only now able to run a mile in under 9 minutes. Best mile now is 8:30. I'll never be a speed demon, but I'm OK with that. Goal is under 8 min/mile, which would be phenomenal considering I started at 12+ minute miles when I first started running.

Way cool! Congratulations! Of course with a name like ChasinPavement I assumed you were more skilled than the average runners here. You would lap me about 3 times on a mile track.

It should still only take 12 mins max walking briskly.

Dude, are you an olympic speedwalker? I think I spotted you in this video!! http://youtu.be/KGfLhNowXtU

Like everyone said, it all depends. I'm a New York walker, so a mile only takes me about 12 minutes.

You can disagree but walking at 4.0 miles and hour isn't "slow" for walking and that would take 15 minutes.

Being that 65% of America is overweight or obese, I doubt that.

That's track and field competitive speed. Good for you.

Nice for you, but I'd LOVE to see you or ANYONE for that matter, WALK a 10:00 mile. I'd bet my next 12 paychecks that you can't do it.
