I am doing the nutrisystem bb..I have been for over 3 months. So far I have lost almost 30lbs. To help you guys answer my question I will give you some of my info. I am currently 205lbs ggg thy and with the nutrisystem diet I am eating around 1600[/b]day. I have avg about 2lbs a week. Also I walk about 2 miles every morning. Like I said I have been Avg around 2lbs a week lost but this last week I kind of fell off the wagon. I went out to eat with my family a few nights last week and ate probably on avg 200 calories more a day so I ate around 1700 or 1800 cAl a day that week. The weird thing was when I stepped on the scale I expected to have lost maybe 1lb or nothing at all. To my suprise I had lost almost 5lbs! There are two things that I believe could of happened. Two weeks ago I added light weightlifting to my routine 2 days a week. Maybe I added some muscle making my metabolism faster, or the extra calories maybe took me out of "starvation" mode. Or 3 mAybe it was just a fluke. What do you guys think happened to cause me to lose more weight this week than any other week by far?

3 most likely (1 is not likely, depending on how light you're talking, and 2 is not possible), or even 4. you retained water from starting your lifting routine and it came off this week

It was most likely a fluke. You definitely weren't in starvation mode, so it wasn't that. Weight loss isn't linear, you'll lose different amounts on different weeks, and some weeks you won't lose at all. Our weights also fluctuate every day, so there's that to take into account. You probably just happened to be retaining less water this week than previous weeks.

Starvation mode is a myth. I sure wish it would go away altogether. IF eating more calories made people lose weight, we wouldn't need MFP :)

It's probably a fluke and/or water weight as mentioned above.

Short term results are unpreditacle. Try to ignore it and focus on the trends. You're doing well so far, no shame in enjoying a hearty meal now and then.

No, you did add muscle. It's very difficult to do in a deficit, and it takes more than two weeks. :)

What you experienced sounds like natural fluctuations. Weight loss is never linear.

You don't eat more to lose more weight. If that were true, then all us obese people would have been skinny from all the overeating. However, there is nothing wrong with raising your calorie goals while staying in a deficit, but you would lose weight at a slower rate. That's what I chose to do for the last several pounds before I hit maintenance.

Thanks you guys for the info. This whole weight loss thing is totally new to me. I can remember years ago being a bodybuilder and eating like crazy to get bigger and it was sooooo hard to gain weight lol. Now that I want to lose weight I think of those days and wish I could eat like a horse and still keep my body lean. MAybe I just need to try and add more weight being that it seems like my body enjoys doing exActly the opposite of what I want it to do. I am totally joking btw
