I just entered my recipe manually and matched ingredients, but when I put in 4 ounces carrot, it was added as 8 cups. I tried to edit the carrot entry, but it does not remove or let me change it. Could someone help me with this? Here is the recipe below. I set it for 10 servings.

8 cups water
8 cups turkey stock
12 ounces butternut squash
25 ounces celery
4 ounces carrot
11 ounces potato
14 ounces turnip
1 ounce jalapeno pepper
8 ounces onion
1 ounce cilantro, fresh
1 Tbs red pepper flakes
3 Tbs Osem consomme
1 Tbs garlic powder
1 Tbs sage, ground
1 Tbs cumin powder
1 Tbs curry powder

A million "Thank you's" to anyone who can help me with this.
P.S a member gave me some directions, but I'm still not getting it.

Edit: This changes the calories significantly

I think I figured it out. I'm using the old "recipe builder" and adding each ingredient seperately. I'll find out if I did it right in a bit

I finally got the whole thing entered into the old recipe builder, seperated by 10 servings, but now it just shows 117 per serving...??? but how many ounces per serving, cups, whatever?? I'm confused

Recipe builder will not tell you how many ounces or cups per serving. You will have to divide it into ten servings yourself.

How many cup servings did the recipe say it was (such as 10 each 1 cup)?

So what I would do is total the liquid amounts and then total the non liquid amounts to total how many cups of ingredients total are in there and divide it by 10 to see if it is 3/4 cups or 1 cup servings, etc..

I measured the whole pot of soup out to 17 cups, so now I'm gonna keep trying to figure it out.

You are not a moron. The tool could really be better designed.

One thing that helps me with soups: I weigh the final recipe (backing out the weight of the pot) and then enter the number of servings as the total number of grams (example: 1,000 grams is 1,000 servings). I then weigh my portions and enter the number of servings as the total number of grams that I ate (example: I eat 480 grams, I log 480 portions). I find it makes it easier for things like soups, stews, etc.

Ahhh I did the best I could and for 17 cups of this soup, I set it for 8 servings at 147/calories per serving. so, i figure a bit over 2 cups per serving, but can't figure how to be exact. I think it's close

I just saw how many servings, so I took a stab at it and put 10, but went to the kitchen and used another pot and measured 17 exact cups for the whole pot, so I edited the recipe for 8 servings, so it's just a tad over 2 cups per serving. This is the best I could figure out now. With practice and reading more, i will get it eventually

That makes more sense! I get my digital kitchen scale w/ tare and unit measurements next month. This will make my life much easier  Thank you for reminding me i'm not a moron :flushed: I was getting so frustrated and hungry at the same time  But I set it at 8 servings/147 calories per serving, i measured out 17 cups for the whole pot, so it's a bit over 2 cups per serving. Anyway if i serve 2 cups i will know its actually less than 147 per serving  So, this is how i got it figured for now. Again Thank You!

I'm making some white rice to go with it. With 1/2 cup of prepared white rice and 2 cups of the soup, it's under 268 per serving :sunglasses: I just tasted it and Yummers :yum: Thanks again for the help and encouragement! Soon I will be making recipes I can freeze in portions.

I really understand your frustration. Here's the best advice I have. Don't get so discouraged you give up. I came to MFP 1 year ago at 245 lbs. Dropped to 231 in about a month but got so frustrated over the recipe builder that I stopped logging in. It doesn't help that I cook from scratch and don't really follow recipes. I figured that entering all I ate was just too much trouble and I was doing so well I didn't need the hassle. 11days ago I came back at 260. I'd gained back the 14 lbs lost plus 15 more.

The food diary gets easier with practice and I'm even starting to get the hang of the recipe builder but it isn't like 1 big aha breakthrough moment. It's more like a whole lot of little tricks I'm picking up almost every day. The servings things is just an awkward part of the program. It isn't going to tell you what the servings ought to be and it isn't even going to tell you if it is cups or ounces or buckets. But nothings perfect and you figure it out and get on with it till the next dumb thing pops up.

So I'm thrilled your soup turned out well your last post was so upbeat. Keep up the good fight. :)
