So my problem isn't really what I eat, it's what I drink. So I started today doing NO cokes at work. I can't go cold turkey immediately, but since I spend the majority of my time at work I thought this would be the best way to try.

I drank a daily 2 liter coke for years...now I drink no soda at all. Its a process good luck.0

I have the same issue0

Switch to diet.0
-
Try to start out by cutting down on them. Like if you drink 5-6 daily, cut down to 2-3. As long as they fit into your daily calorie limits, you shouldn't have any issues0
-
Treat yourself to (1) diet coke a day! A reward but stick to diet. GL0

I have the exact same problem. I enjoy soda too much and diet soda just isn't the same.0

I start my day off with a tea then switch to a 2 L bottle of water that I finish off during the day.
Diet cola is hydrating too.0 -
I wouldn't suggest switching to diet. A friend of mine was struggling to lose weight despite her diet and her doctor told her to cut out the diet coke and she's lost 39lbs since! Try reducing the soda by gradually replacing it with water etc!0

She was probably eating something with it then. Diet soda doesn't have any calories. Whether it makes you crave sweet foods or not is a very individual thing.0 -

She must have cut out diet soda and started eating at a deficit at the same time?0 -

No....chances are your friend also began eating at a calorie deficit. Diet coke won't make you gain weight. Not eating at a calorie deficit will make you gain weight. OP...if you like the taste of diet coke, have a diet coke. If you don't and you prefer water... that's cool.
There are people all over this site who have successfully switched from a full calorie soda to diet soda and have lost the weight.

I used to drink 2litres of Pepsi Max a day for a few years and I managed to come of it
Although I did go cold turkey and I had bad headaches from the caffeine withdrawal but I managed to do it and I feel so much better and less bloated due to it.
You can do it

Sorry but no. She likely started eating at a deficit, thus lost weight. Diet soda had nothing to do with it. Unless she had a medical issue. Its going to come down to cico0 -
I drink diet Pepsi regularly, also Coke Zero, Sprite Zero, Fanta Zero, Pibbs Zero, and my weight loss is going along nicely. The only way that would not be the case is if I was eating more thinking I had earned it because I drank a diet soda instead of a regular one.0

Nope, something else had to change for this to happen.

OP for me.....I used to drink pop all day at work, the water fountains are not something I will drink from (worked with them in the past...will never use one now)......
My fix is to take my own water with me now, this has stopped me drinking pop.....
I pop a couple of 1.4 full bottles of water in the freezer on there side.....then fill up before work with water / juice so I have a ice cold drink all night, I freeze a full bottle for later in the night, again this gives me ice water all night at awork....keeping me away from the vending machines.....
My drink of choice was Lucozade.....2 bottles a day...over 500 calories....since I stopped...its weird...but I do now have more energy......and the water really does make a huge difference to my day now....once you see the change its hard to go back then.....why would I....
I do still enjoy pop at weekends.....but now I drink Zero coke or Fanta......so all good....0 -
So...... what youre saying is that......youre a coke addict?

Quitting coke will probably save you a few hundred thousand dollars a year.
Not to mention your health. Dangerous stuff. Sometimes people lace it with glass for added effect.0 -
That's exactly what I did to start cutting down, I stopped drinking soda at work. It's actually gone really well! I've gotten down to drinking a can of Dr. Pepper everyday, which is a HUGE improvement for me! Good luck!0

I drank a 2 liter of diet pepsi every day for 25 years. I'm not saying it contributed to my weight gain over the years, because I have no proof. All I can say is I weaned myself off the stuff over a 2-3 month period two summers ago and I haven't missed it. I love the taste of water now, where before I craved pop bad. I enjoy a soda maybe once a month now but I have no desire to buy a boat load of 2 liters at the grocery when it's on sale. Once I got rid of the desire for sweet tasting drinks, the weight started to come off and I've kept it off ever since. Now working on the last 10 pounds0
