Love DL as it's the only "lower" body exercise that I am better at than benching.
Really feel I'm accomplished something after a good session of DL's.

I've been using a mixed grip for about a year now on my DL. I don't *alternate* my *alternate* at all. Is this something I should start doing? I don't really wanna..............but.....will start if it is important.

I find it so strange that people love deadlifting so much. it's honestly my least favourite part of stronglifts. I just find it boring. i'm currently only at 115lbs though so maybe I'll enjoy it more when I'm lifting more? I don't know though, I'm already starting to find it difficult on both my hands and my body. when I started out my personal trainer told me I had excellent form on my deadlift, commented that it was rare to find someone with such good form just starting out, yet I feel like now that I'm lifting above 100lbs that I'm starting to feel it in my back perhaps a little bit more than I should be. not sure if I'm doing something wrong, moreso just because I don't enjoy doing them lol.

Didn't even notice this! And actually...I don't know how I stumbled into it. Maybe was searching PHUL? LOL -- sorry for the oldie!

I do either single leg dumbbell or cable stiff leg deadlifts. Both of which are kinder to my sciatic.

They're fun. And kinda badass. Unfortunately, my grip strength fails before my legs. :/

Versa grips. One of the best darn equipment purchases I made.

Ok, I'll add to this resurrected thread. Just started training again 5 weeks ago after a 3 yr hiatus because of various injuries & surgeries.

Not a complete beginner, so I didn't start w/a bare bar. Currently at 235 in DL and previously reached 275 doing 1x5 every otber day. My goal is to reach a 1RM of 315. DL is my strongest lift and OHP is my weakest.

I agree that doing deadlifts is important to any strength program but so are squats, bench presses and overhead presses. All of these lifts are in both Stronglifts and Starting Strength., which emphasizes their importance. Beyond these lifts, SL uses rows and SS uses power cleans. I prefer the lifts and provramming options in SS over SL but that's a matter of discussion for another thread.

BTW, I'm a 65 yr old male and currently weigh 181. I've lost almost 9 lbs in 5 wks and my target weight is 175 which I expect to reach w/in the next 5 weeks or so.

Use straps or anything else that'll work for you. Unless you're a competitive lifter, it doesn't matter what "aids" you use.

All that matters is being able to lift the weight (preferably w/o injury). The aids will help you lift the weight and proper form (and not lifting beyond your physical capacity) should prevent injuries.
