How To Exercise..

I just joined my YMCA, I've never been an exerciser.. ever. Even when I was thin (I've only been overweight for the past couple of years). I hate to sweat!
I realized that I was so skinny while a teen because my parents owned an in-ground pool and I would spend ALL day doing laps. I didn't realize it was exercise and it was fun, so that's what I've started doing.
We go as a family (me, husband, 13 year old child and 16 month old baby) and we've been going every morning for a week or so, since we joined. This has been our routine -
Start with open swim hours, before child care opens. We spend about an hour playing around in the pool, not much exercise - water walking, light swimming.
Then we drop the baby off at child care and spend 30-45 minutes swimming laps in the lap pool.
Then we spend 15-30 minutes using the weight machines. I have no idea what I'm doing, I follow the diagrams on the machines and do each machine 20 times, move to the next one, do it 20 times, etc. I repeat that circuit 3-4 times.
Then we go home and go to our jobs/school.
Now that I've started the habit of going to the gym, I'd like to start an effective exercise routine. Knowing I like to swim and do want to do some weight training, what's the best course for me? Or is there a recommended website? I've tried looking but everyone has a different opinion.
Thanks in advance!

Since you like swimming, you could try to see how far you can swim in one workout and then try to push yourself to swim further the next time or you could try to swim the same length but faster. Try to challenge yourself at each workout, but don't push so hard that you'll burn out. You could also try finding some swimmers workouts on the web. These workouts may include recommended weight training too.0
