Good day to everyone!
As my title says, I am not new to MyFitnessPal. My name is Sunny, and I am 38 yrs old. I had been doing Atkins, and was doing well with weight loss on it. I had lost about 50 lbs doing it and was quite pleased. A few months ago I had a huge set back that has turned my world seemingly upside down. I was having some pain in the back of my knee. I thought that I had sprained it or just pulled a muscle at work. It kept hurtin for a few days and didn't stop. Long story short, I had a blood clot in the popliteal vein that had a part break lose and lodge in my left lung. I went to the ER and after much testing, they admitted me to the hospital. I spent 8 days there, and needless to say, hospitals do not accommodate those eating low carb, even on request. I lost 11 pounds while in the hospital though ( all water due to high dose diuretics they gave me because of fluid retention). They sent me to a blood specialist afterwards to find out the cause of the clots as I had no apparent cause, am relatively young, and had only ever had a superficial blood clot. I came to find out I have a couple of genetic mutations that increase my blood clotting risk. I am now on a blood thinner, diuretic, and certain supplements to try to bring down my high homocysteine level. The doctor told me he did not mind if I went back to doing Atkins, as I need to lose 150 pounds to get to the weight that the doctors say I must be at to reduce risk of more clots the best. His biggest concern with Atkins was that I must avoid foods very high in vitamin K (which is almost all green leafy veggies) but I did Atkins phase 1 again for a month sans greens and lost only 3 pounds. I couldn't figure out why, and asked my doctor about it. He asked if I might be getting hidden carbs from anywhere, and came to find out that I am taking in almost 90 grams of carbs a day just in my medications and supplements. I can not NOT take these. So I will be unable to do Atkins anymore. I am switching gears, and have been just eating 1000-1800 calories daily the past 4 weeks. I am beginning South Beach Diet Phase 1 today, after much research I find it to be the best fit for me and also sustainable. I am having a hard time learning to eat differently. But it is something I must do. I do not know if any of ya'll are on warfarin, or are having to watch intake of certain vitamins or foods, but I would really appreciate meeting some new friends who are in similar circumstances or following SBD or another similar eating plan. Thanks for reading and I look forward to reading your responses!

Sunny
