Hi! So I've been trying to cut the cholesterol in my diet and one of the first things they tell you is to substitute white pasta and rice to whole wheat pasta and brown rice.

So now I'm wondering, are there any recipes out there that will make brown rice absolutely delicious and not taste like grainy wallpaper paste?

...No I haven't eaten wallpaper paste. It was just a guess :p

I use brown rice is stuffed bell peppers and spanish rice. For the stuffed peppers, you can use ground chicken or lean ground beef, tomatoes, rice, onions, etc. Spanish rice, I use tomatoes, jalapenos, onion, garlic, etc. I found using them this way instead of just plain makes them so much better.

Have you tried short grain brown rice? I LOVE the stuff, and find long grain brown rice to taste totally gross. that might help. I don't know whether you have the same brands available to you as I do, but Lundberg makes a tasty short grain brown rice. (In my opinion!)

I also find that if I substitute some of the cooking water with vegetable broth, it adds some flavor.

And finally, I try to make recipes that have some kind of tasty sauce, so that the rice has some nice sauce on it. Curry, or salsa, etc.

Dietary cholesterol has little impact on blood cholesterol levels. Also recently dietary cholesterol has been shown not to be as much a concern as it once was.

So dump the brown rice if you don't like it.

I find adding a little chinese 5 spice gives it a nice taste! Or a little bit of curry powder!

I prefer brown rice...I cook mine in a good chicken stock. The other key is to use enough liquid and cook it for an appropriate amount of time. It requires more liquid (I use 1&1/3 cup liquid to 1/2 cup brown rice) and is going to require a longer cooking time. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low so that it just simmers for about 50 minutes to an hour.

In RE to whole wheat pasta, I don't touch the stuff. Also, be aware that what people are referring to is eating more whole grains and getting more fiber in your diet in general...there are many ways to do this...if you don't like brown rice or whole wheat pasta, there are about a million and one other ways to get plenty of fiber in your diet.

I have a brown basmati rice at home that my daughter's family rejected (they are strictly fans of white rice). I've eaten whole grain for so long that is my new normal.

I like whole wheat pasta just fine but hate brown rice. I use Jasmine or Basmati rice and measure the amount so I don't overdo. I make my bread with half whole wheat flour and half white flour. *also* I get lots of fruits and vegetables. It's working well for me.

I add flavor by using different spices. 1)Curry 2)cayenne pepper & chiplote pepper 3) Lemon pepper and garlic. All with a little butter and salt.

    This.
No reason to eat something you don't like. It will have little to no impact.
