Scale shows I've lost but no inches lost.

Ive just started dieting/exercising almost 3 weeks ago. The scale says I've lost 10lbs, but I haven't lost even half an inch! Starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. :( Has anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions?

Out of curiosity how many spots are you measuring?

    It could be water weight

well fat could be lost from the face, neck, back, lower legs, breasts, *kitten*, and basically everywhere on the body.
Also belly and thigh fat are the last to go. Well belly fat is. Not sure about thighs.

You could still be holding a couple of liters of water too (one liter is 2.2 pounds in weight I think)
And think about the last meals you ate and when, and the last time you excreted as well. If there's still food and feces in your digestive system and colon (respectively), then obviously the mass from them would be pushing out your belly a little.
Mine is always 'fatter' at night after i'm done eating for the day, compared to the mornings when I wake up (providing I do go to the toilet at some point to relieve some weight)

It's quite possible that you are losing from area's that you aren't measuring. I measure:

    Both upper arms
    Both forearms
    Neck
    Bust
    underbust
    Waist (smallest point)
    Abdomen @ Navel .
    Hips
    Both Thighs
    Both Calfs
**wrist** I did do wrists, but don't anymore. Mine are right around under 6" now and I don't think they are going to get any smaller.
edit: and even all those don't show me 100% of the area's it's possible to lose fat from. Hands, Face, and feet for example.

Measurements are a great way to track progress, but sometimes we don't lose, or lose as much, from the places we measure. That's why I like progress photos. I didn't lose much from my waist or hips, but in photos, I can see that I lost that smooshy back fat near my bra band.

Under three weeks is not really a long time. Also, not to be disheartening, but our weight changes up to 4lb during the course of a day and water weight can account for a few pounds too. Great work on starting your weight loss journey and trust what you're doing. It's a marathon not a sprint right?!

3 weeks is not enough time for me to see loss of inches in most places. I measure every 2-3 months. Are you using an auto-tightening tape measure? If not, it's possible you were tight-measuring when you got your starting measurements.

I think you could probably also lose semi-evenly from everywhere so it wouldn't seem to make as much of an impact as ten pounds off your butt or hips.

I've personally noticed a lot of discrepancy when I try to measure myself, so I always ask my boyfriend to do it, to ensure accuracy. But as it's been said, it's really impossible to expect noticable results in only 3 weeks' time. If you went from eating unhealthy, no exercise, little water intake (or any combination thereof) then chances are it's just water weight lost or what I like to call "noob losses".

From experience, I can tell you that the first step is to lower your expectations. Rome wasn't built in a day, and the more you want these immediate results, the more you're going to be upset when you don't get them, and the more likely you are to resort to outlandish measures, or just give up entirely (I've fallen off the wagon I don't know how many times)

Take your time, and trust yourself. You've got this! :)
