Would you classify running as just cardio?

It's a full body workout (kinda) but in your opinion does running help maintain some lean muscle mass in the process of losing?

It's a workout for sure, but you still need to be doing some sort of strength exercise to retain those muscles. My friend's husband is a professional long-distance runner (seriously, that's his whole job) and part of his crazy training involves weight lifting to keep those muscles in check.

Yes- it is just cardio. And no, it's not a full body workout. It might help maintain your lean mass if you were doing sprints etc, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

If you want to maintain your lean mass do some strength training with either body weight or with weights.

    It's a cardiovascular exercise.

Although maybe if you strap two 30kg dumbbells to your ankles you could combine leg day.

Sure. Every aerobic cardio work-out is maintaining and can even build some muscles. Aerobic vs anaerobic is a more accurate or well-defined classification.
