I have bounced back and forth between CICO and Low carb and I have to say that Low carb has really been what has worked for me and my body type. I am def carry my weight in my mid section and I notice with atkins that is first place I lose. I found this great site that I thought was pretty inspiring - if like me - you have a hard time staying low carb. http://www.sugarfreesheila.com/

It does work but be careful not to "overdo" the no-carb thing. You need some carbs and if you are active/strength training then you need even more to replenish your muscles and stuff. Atkins is really kind of a "sham" for anything long term. You cant eat like a Lion for the rest of your life. Its fine for a quick crash diet I suppose but long term you are better off balancing things out. Any diet that eliminates any macro is just bleh.

Like say - 125g-150g of carbs per day and then a little more than that on active days or days that you exercise hard. It wont make you fat. 500grams of junk carbs WILL make you fat. ;)

Hrm, I'm 15 years in, exactly when is it you suppose I'm going to either drop dead or magically gain all the weight back, CICO be damned? There's a reason it's been medically prescribed for over a century.

With low carb some of your initial loss is water weight. You still have to eat less calories than you burn if you want to lose fat with low carb. Cutting out carbs just makes it easier for some to create a deficit.

I wish you the best of luck an whatever method works for you, but I would suggest that you ask yourself if low carb is sustainable for you long term. If so, why have you been bouncing back and forth?

The reason most people regain weight is because they fail to sustain their plan.

Apparently in his world, eating less than 125g/day of carbs is eating like a lion.

There are plenty of people who have followed Atkins for years, even decades. There's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping carbs relatively low for the rest of one's life. It can even be necessary for people with certain medical conditions, like diabetes, to eat that way.

500 grams of junk carbs wouldn't make anyone fat, either, unless that was too many calories for them on a daily basis.
