My name is Kelly Van Stedum and I am 22. I have been trying to lose the weight and reach my goal for five years now. I always start and then gain it all, if not more, back. I know my problem. I know that I have issues of staying motivated to achieve my goal and then on top of it, I'm an emotional and stress eater- which is not good when I am a month from having my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I am 5'6" and weigh 210lbs. I have a dream of being 125lbs by the time my 23rd birthday rolls around. I really want to do this as a vegan, as I know that my body has a hard time handling meat and animal biproducts. I love to run and be outdoors, as I find indoor exercises to lose my attention easily. Problem with running, I love it so much that I did it everyday without rest and gave myself a stress fracture, therefore making me upset I couldn't run my races and then binging on non-vegan foods. This was at the beginning of last year and now I am fully healed and ready to do it the right way and keep it off. I really need some alternatives to binging and motivation. That's my main issue. I lose motivation and then I binge- repetitively... Then the 25 lbs I lost in the beginning of the year come back to haunt me. I am very happy to have people in this community looking to achieve and finally reaching their goals. Feel free to add me and we can motivate each other!

Your off to a great start- positive frame of mind has to be in. By no means am I an expert .Living vegan 41 days.
You have to make choices for your body and lifestyle. Me and my husband became Vegans without sugar and liimited salt for his health and never look back dont miss meat. We got rid off the processed food and sugar on a Sunday 41 days ago; went shopping read every label and started experimenting. - this is still ongoing.Reading the labels of everything you eat is key surprisingly low fat my be just as bad as all fat! Good luck!

Kelly, you can do this. The main thing to overcome is picking yourself up after falling off the wagon. You have to get back on track the next meal. It's hard not to get into a mindset that allows for a slipup to turn into a downward spiral, but you must. As for going vegan, you need to make sure you get enough protein and you might need to take a B12 supplement. If you are still in college go to your campus health center and speak to the nutritionist or dietician. The cost should be included in your student fees. If you can get a handle on this while you are still young, you will feel the benefits for many years to come. I certainly wish I had tamed the monster at your age. Good luck.
