Questions About 500-700 Calories In A Day

In a day I currently eat about 1300-1500 calories. The net may be different, but those are the calories I consume on a daily basis.

On top of this I always try to do at least 30 minutes of some form of exercise. Some days I don't make it to the net weight, but I am not starving myself either. I eat until I am not hungry anymore.

The plan was to Eat my regular amount Monday, Wednesday, Friday. During Tuesday and Thursday 500-700 calories. The weekend is probably going to include more calories and less exercise than throughout the week.

My question is if I eat 500-700 calories two days a week would that stunt my ability to lose weight? Has anyone tried something similar to this? I am looking for opinions as well as fact, so let me hear it ;P

A lot of people do this (Intermittent Fasting), but they also eat at maintenance on the five days as their deficit is taken care of on the fasting days.

Your daily average is going to be really low.....1500+1500+1500+700+700+700+700 / 7= 1,042 calories. 1200 NET is as low as MFP will go. 1200 > 1,042

    Edited....3 days at higher calories.

It sounds like intermittent fasting. It's one tool a person can use to help achieve a calorie deficit. If that works well for you, then by all means do it.

NO! This is not intermittent fasting. This is a very low calorie diet (VLCD). 1042 calories a day is extremely low.

OP - people who are morbidly obese sometimes do go on VLCD....but they are medically supervised. It's extremely difficult to get proper nutrition at this level.

Zig-Zag your calories to NET something like at least 1200. This is still pretty low (especially because you are young).

Sorry I think I confused you.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday would have about 1300-1500 calories.
Tuesday, Thursday would have about 500-700 calories
Saturday and Sunday will most likely be at least 1500 calories, but it is really just however much I want to eat whether that be more or less than 1500 calories.

    Sorry I wasn't very clear :S

On the low end, that is still 1,128 per day. I don't know your height, but this isn't very much -- especially for someone who is planning to exercise. You could be netting well below 1,200 each day on this plan.

Well then it's impossible to say because "as much as you want" is a huge variable.

WHOOPS! Missed the part about the exercise.

On those days where you plan to eat less, I wouldn't exercise.

I was doing a 800-900 calorie intake per day for a week and the week after I wanted to eat everything... Perhaps just the two days would be okay though. I wouldn't think it would "stunt" the way you lose weight, but you might unintentionally eat more the other days as a result of it. If you do go low calorie for 1 day you would only be using up glycogen stores that day and replenishing them should keep your body at a regular equilibrium.

    Don't over-complicate this.

Choose your target daily calorie goal. Multiply it by 7. That's your weekly calorie bank. Now distribute those calories any which way you like throughout the week -- more on some days, less on others, however you want. As long as you meet your goal for the week, you're fine.
