Was deciding whether to put this on here, as really didn’t have to do with weight loss, but after thinking about it, in a round about way it does. This has not been the best of weekends.
My best friend of mine who I have known for over 35 years along with her family, found out that her dad who has liver cancer and fighting it for 7 years now, found out its progressing and the Dr. gives him 3 months to live and is only 69 years old now. He is the nicest guy and taking it as well as can be expected, but my friend who lost her mom several years ago to lung cancer, is not doing as well. Her dad is just tired and decided he was done with chemo and just let things progress. I had to help her do his will this morning. My friend and I have gone a lot of good times together, traveled a bunch together, I helped her with her kids from the day they were born until now, 23 years later. I tried to be there as much as I could thru the years. I just feel so hopeless that there is nothing I can do to help her with the pain except be there, which I know helps, but never want to see her sad or upset, but this is just something that there is nothing I can do to ease her pain. I know its part of life, but the years just pass by and things happen with age.
Which brings me to the connection to losing weight. We all have only one life, some short, some longer. There are a lot of problems that come from being over weight and not eating right. I have had 2 strokes, leaving me with damage to my left side forever. People have heart disease, diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure etc… I was one that thought nothing would happen to me, but it did. I was in the hospital the last time for 35 days, 2 weeks of it in intensive care. Sometimes on here sometimes I get upset seeing people saying, oh I went out with friends and had some beer and pizza and then complain and wonder why they are not losing. Either you want to lose or not! This is not a mystery. Eat less calories and exercise, even if just walking. It does work. If you want to deal with this forever, keep having those cheat days etc… Doesn’t everyone realize that that is the reason your probably here? From eating badly in the first place? Either you want to lose or not? I see so many people that go up a pound, down a pound but never get anywhere. Well you know what, your probably not doing enough then. Again, this process is no mystery. Of course we are all different and will lose at different rates, but for me it was just stay within my MFP calories and exercise, which was strictly walking and most importantly, you have to get into this mentally, want to lose that pound and make that more important than the cookie or cake. Believe me, I am the most encouraging person on here and don’t mean to come off like I am scolding people, but again, that brings me back to my friends dad. Yes, he has cancer and his days are limited, and with losing my dad about 4 years ago, I know what is ahead for him. But being overweight has some really definite problems that can come from it, and its not just not being able to bend down or to look good in a bikini.
There are serious medical reasons to be healthy, and you NOW have the chance to do something about it. I want to be excited seeing you all fight for those last few pounds and then being excited as you reach your goals. PLEASE, do it while you have the chance. You see, that like in my friends case, its just not what he is going thru, but how its affecting his kids, the grand kids, his friends, friends of the family, coworkers etc…. So, if you can't do it for yourself, do it for everyone else that cares about you. Use any motivation you can get. There were days where I actually wanted cake or cookies and did not eat it because I felt like I would be disappointing all my MFP friends. So please, I only hope you all do well. I may not know you all personally, but you are part of MY MFP family, and do not want to see anyone have go thru anything that can come from being over weight.
Some things not control in our lives, but this we can control. I know for me now I see how miserable I was when I was heavy and how much I missed out on, and that s my motivation now to never going back there again. Best of health to my MFP friends, and have a great week….
Feel free to add me as a friend....
