Is having both a treadmill and an elliptical too much?

about 2 years ago I sold my treadmill and bought a elliptical. I like elliptical it burns more calories in a shorter time than the treadmill, but since then due to excessive prolonged standing at work I have developed hip bursitis and mild lower back pain. And walking helps my hip and back pain. So I was thinking about buying another treadmill for that, because walking outdoors is sometimes hindered by being too hot or too cold or walking on pavement aggravates my heel spur. I plan on buying my mom's used treadmill for $250. I like a variety of exercises too I would get less bored alternating workouts on the treadmill and elliptical.

I'm not sure where you got that idea, it's all about how hard your body is working, not which type of equipment you're using.
It seems like if you want to use both, have room for both and can afford both, then you should have both. But don't use the elliptical just because you think it burns more calories...0 -
Your calorie burn is dependent on your level of effort, not the machine you're using. If you run 6 MPH on a treadmill for 30 minutes I guarantee you'll burn more calories than you would doing anything on an elliptical for 30 minutes.
Personally, if it were me I would get the elliptical as my machine and use the great outdoors to walk/run.0
