Ok, so I’m now down almost 40 pounds since August 2014. I feel great and the pain in my back is slowly going away. The ICF 5x5 I started back in January has been tremendous. I seriously haven’t been this strong since college. My motivation has now changed to some new thoughts that honestly I didn’t know were in me. Believe it or not, I actually ENJOY going to the gym. Let me say that again with how my brain hears it… I actually enjoy going to the GYM???? Yeah, strange. It’s like a question and a statement all very foreign but I’m getting acclimated pretty quickly.

Oh man, the naysayers are coming out now. My own Mom actually told me the other day that I didn’t need to diet anymore. I tried to explain that I’m not really on a “diet”. I just watch what I eat, try to him my maintenance calories, and make sure the protein macro gets satisfied. She said, “what”?? I’ve had numerous folks try to give me advice on diet and exercise that I now know is WAYYY off base. I’ve really done a deep dive into the mechanics of weight loss, weight gain, “bulk/cut”, and IIFYM topics. What I didn’t know before I started educating myself is astonishing.

Oh and BTW, this stuff WORKS! It’s not rocket science once you get under the hood of it all. What makes it understandable to a novice like me are the tools we have at our fingertips now. Tools like MFP, heart rate monitors, and other folks success stories. There’s a thread on MFP titled “I went from Morbidly Obese to 6 Pack Abs” that was particularly inspiring. TONS of great info and motivation in there. I encourage you to read it so I’ve linked it below:

I would post before and after pics but I’m still a little shy about that. Part of the psychology is getting over that but I guess but I’m just not there. I can say that I’m very happy with myself so far and the man in the mirror is getting easier to look at. The main thing is that I can tell I’m getting comfortable with the life change I made back last August. It’s paid off in a 40 pound weight loss, 5 inches off the waist line, energy out the wazoo, and an inner self that’s learning to enjoy the ride.
