Cardio & Strength Trg - necessary together in 1 session?

When I first started this journey, my personal trainer recommended 2 40-60 min sessions of low impact cardio (like walking) and 2-4 20-40 min sessions of high impact cardio like running in conjunction with my weight training. I had been doing treadmill running and elliptical at the gym to cover the high impact and have been doing it before I started my weight training. Works out to about 30 mins cardio and 30 mins on my strength program.

I'm running for an hour every second day (outside) and I don't feel I really need that additional time on the treadmill in the gym. My PT said that it was good to get your heartrate up before strength training but I've also heard from others that it makes no difference?? Any thoughts out there??

Can I dump the treadmill in advance of the strength training and focus more of that time I have on the strength training?? I want to make sure I'm optimizing the time I have there!

Thanks!

There is some merit to warming up, but ultimately it's all about performance and injury prevention. If you feel good and are able to push the weight you want, then I'd worry less about it. If you don't feel good or are injury prone, warm-ups become more important.

But to be clear... cardio is not the same as warming up. If your PT wants you to warm up, then I'd do that. But doing a real cardio workout can actually hinder strength training.
