Those of you who started off with 40 pounds or more to lose, how did losing those last 15 pounds or so compare with the weight you lost earlier on? Was it easier or harder? Did you have to change things up to keep the scale moving?

In, because this is where I am, too. So far I'm still losing a pound a week. I know I keep seeing the advice that with a smaller amount to go I should switch to half a pound, but I don't really understand the reasoning behind that.

The reasoning behind lowering to half a pound a week is, as you get smaller, you'll need less calories to maintain. You should be having MFP recalculate your goals every 10lbs or so. So by the time you have just a few pounds left to lose, your goal will be lower than when you started, which can be unsustainable for some.

For me the last 15 was easier then the first 15 simply because I am used to eating on a calorie budget. Accurately counting and logging is easier because I have become good at it with practice. Even though the deficit is smaller and there is less room for error it takes less effort for me to stick with my program because it has become a habit. 75 down, 5 to go !

I lost 52 lbs. last year. Now I'm working on 10 more. For me, the first batch of weight was way easier to lose. I was starting from zero fitness-wise so I saw improvements all the time. Now the improvements are much slower to show up. Last year felt like a fun sprint. This year feels like a muddy slog.

So last year I lost 45 pounds or so - the last 15 took longer. I kept eating the same # of calories - making my deficit smaller and my weight loss slower (from about 1.7 pounds/week at the start to .4-.5 pounds/week at the finish). I increased general physical activity, and also added weight training in. My attitude was - as long as the weight is coming off, I am satisfied. I didn't consider weight loss a sprint to the promised land.

It's become harder for me, I'm on my last 12lbs, I had to stop eating back my exercise calories for a bit to get my loss moving again.

I'm down 60 with 15ish to go! Still coming off for now but I keep thinking it'll be slowing soon.
